We are looking for a Revenue Accounting Lead who is passionate about technical revenue accounting, commercial enablement, and building scalable revenue accounting operations.

As a Revenue Accounting Lead at DigitalOcean, you will be a senior individual contributor on the Revenue Accounting & Operations team, reporting to the Sr. Director of Revenue Accounting & Operations. You will serve as a key Revenue Accounting partner to Sales, Partnerships, Legal, Product, Infrastructure, Billing, Engineering, and Finance, owning complex and non-standard revenue arrangements from commercial structure and ASC 606 assessment through operational design, implementation, and recurring execution. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting judgment with commercial fluency and an operator mindset, and can independently lead cross-functional collaborations while escalating the highest-risk judgments. appropriately.

What You’ll Do:
  • Own technical revenue accounting for complex and non-standard arrangements across customers, strategic partnerships and marketplaces, including ASC 606 assessments of pricing, variable consideration, contract modifications, and evolving commercial terms.
  • Partner with Sales, Partnerships, Legal, Product and Finance before deals and new initiatives are finalized, providing practical accounting guidance and helping shape structures that achieve business objectives while appropriately addressing accounting and operational requirements.
  • Lead the accounting operationalization of new arrangements and monetization models, translating contractual and product economics into billing, revenue recognition, reporting, data and control requirements and driving cross-functional implementation, including where existing systems do not natively support the terms.
  • Own the ongoing accounting for assigned complex arrangements, including recurring calculations and estimates, monitoring contractual and delivery variables, assessing amendments and other changes, resolving issues, and ensuring accurate accounting through close and financial reporting.
  • Support the broader revenue close, reporting and control environment, including review of analyses and workpapers, account reconciliations, disclosures, internal controls and external audit matters within areas of responsibility.
  • Develop and lead process, system, automation and AI-enabled improvements that reduce manual effort and operational risk, strengthen controls, and make complex revenue accounting more scalable.
Key Metrics: 
  • Quality and timeliness of technical accounting assessments for complex deals, partnerships and pricing models.
  • Accuracy and audit readiness of revenue accounting for owned arrangements, including timely identification and resolution of issues.
  • Timely and effective operationalization of new arrangements, with clear accounting processes, controls, ownership and documentation.
  • Improved scalability and efficiency of revenue operations through process, system, automation and AI-enabled improvements that reduce manual effort and recurring exceptions.
  • Effectiveness as a cross-functional partner, including responsiveness and quality of support to commercial, product and Finance stakeholders.
What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA preferred.
  • 6+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, ideally within SaaS, cloud, AI, infrastructure, or another technology business with complex usage-based and enterprise arrangements.
  • Strong technical knowledge of ASC 606 and demonstrated ability to independently evaluate complex and non-standard contracts, including modifications, variable consideration and evolving pricing or commercial structures.
  • Proven ability to partner with and influence cross-functional stakeholders across Sales, Partnerships, Legal, Product, Billing, Engineering and Finance, balancing commercial responsiveness with sound accounting judgment.
  • Experience translating technical accounting conclusions into operational execution, including scalable processes, controls, system requirements and recurring accounting procedures.
  • Experience with revenue operations and supporting systems, including billing, order-to-cash, ERP/revenue platforms (e.g., Oracle, NetSuite or RMCS), data analysis, automation and control design.
  • Strong ownership, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, clearly articulate technical conclusions, lead cross-functional initiatives and appropriately escalate high-risk matters.
Compensation Range: 
  • $120,000 - $150,000
