About Us:

Blockworks is a financial media brand that delivers breaking news and premium insights about digital assets to millions of investors. Our content, newsletters, podcasts, and events provide investors with the critical analysis and information they need to make smarter decisions about digital assets.

Who You Are

You want to play a role in shaping the industry's understanding of crypto data and research. You thrive in environments where you have the autonomy and expertise to build, iterate, and innovate products and solutions.

Your creativity and resourcefulness allow you to meet and regularly exceed the team’s needs. You love to build and are excited by the idea of working cross-functionally across Research, Advisory, and Engineering teams to help present and evolve our data analytics approach for our customers and clients. Lastly, you thrive in an environment where you can provide input and recommendations for data structure and the future of analytics.

What You’ll Do

As our Research Data Analyst, you will be responsible for creating in-depth analytics and dashboards that track the health, profitability, and usership of various protocols and sectors. The outputs of your work will be viewed and consumed by broad audiences inside and outside the crypto industry.

Every day will look a little different, but in general, you will do things like:

  • Build Dashboards: You will be responsible to write queries against our data sources to create and maintain our protocol dashboards that cover on L1s, L2s, and popular applications across the industry. You’ll work alongside the team to curate what metrics are showcased based on your knowledge on the protocol. You’ll also aggregate new and existing data to help form comprehensive sector-specific analytics.

  • Collaborate with Protocol Teams: Our Advisory collaborates with the top protocols and applications to provide custom services based on their needs. You will work alongside these industry leaders to provide data collection and analysis based on the needs of the engagement.

  • Data Sourcing: You will actively seek out the best sources, and are open to constant experimentation.

  • Pioneer Industry Leading Frameworks: You'll assist the Blockworks Analytics team in developing new frameworks that set the bar for crypto investors and builders. We strive to create new better frameworks that explain ideas like blockchain value accrual, active address segmentation to glean real user activity, financial models and valuation metrics for applications, and much more.

  • Continuously Learn and Share Knowledge: You’ll proactively keep up-to-date with evolving themes and industry trends, and you will share your learning with the broader Research and Advisory teams.

Experimentation is frequent at Blockworks. Comfortability with being uncomfortable is a must.

What You’ve Done Before

You have a passion for crypto and a relentless curiosity to grow knowledge base of how blockchains work, and you have experience using onchain applications. You have used SQL to work with onchain data in Dune, Flipside, or similar data analytics tools. You're technical and opinionated, so you are always able to craft an informed point of view after working with a protocol’s data.

You understand how smart contracts work on EVM chains, and are aware that other frameworks like SVM, MoveVM, and CosmWasm exist. You are proficient in navigating block explorers across all of these environments. You are eager to work with new data in frameworks that are new to you to grow you understanding of the industry.

It’d Be Great If You’ve Done This

Any experience in a data-heavy role or as a research analyst in crypto, TradFi, or consulting that required use of SQL, dbt, or Python will move you to the top of our list. Additionally, any familiarity working in a cloud data warehouse such as BigQuery is welcomed.

We are eager to work with people who deeply understand the crypto industry, so experience being active within a DAO or regularly looking into various governance forums goes a long way. You're a vocal advocate in the industry and enjoy communicating with our audience and customers via Twitter, podcasts, and written mediums about your view on the state of the crypto industry and where it is moving.

Lastly, we're looking for incredibly strong communication skills that include a natural ability to write long-form research about complex narratives and ideas in a way that is clear, cohesive, accurate, and can be easily understood by a broad audience.
