PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The purpose of the Manager of Accounting is to provide technical and administrative management for General Accounting, Reinsurance Accounting & Operations, Accounts Payable, and/or Treasury personnel. This position manages and reviews operations of the Accounting teams to ensure that transactions, productivity and costs are aligned with Company standards and financial growth goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops functional accounting policies, procedures, and processes.
Adheres to consistent financial reporting cycle for both accounting deadlines and statutory reporting deadlines. Ensures accuracy and completeness of deliverables.
Formulates organizational policies that will have a far-reaching impact on the organization.
Develops, implements, and follows up on methods to increase productivity and decrease expenses.
Identifies, researches, resolves, and follows up on problems and opportunities generated by the reconciliation of accounts including any inefficiency of department policies and procedures.
Maintains strong internal controls and ensures compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
Supports audits (internal, external, and regulatory) by providing required documentation and explanations.
Participates in new system projects and the implementation of new systems.
Leads system enhancements or implementations.
Identifies system problems, recommends solutions, and follows through until the problem is resolved.
Implements policies and procedures to maintain workflow standards.
Interfaces with department managers, vendors, and IT project managers.
Oversees unit(s) within the Accounting department.
Manages the Assumed & Ceded, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Regulatory Tax Compliance, and/or Corporate General Ledger units.
Reviews bank statement reconciliations and accounting analyses.
Advises management on decisions and resolutions for department issues.
Prepares accounting reports upon request and analyzes and interprets results.
Oversees the month-end and quarter-end close processes. Calculates and review quarterly adjustments.
Audits past files for accuracy and completeness.
Oversees and reconciles all related General Ledger accounts. Ensures all recorded transactions are in line.
Manages Reinsurance accounting, financial, and operational processes.
Oversee the timely and accurate recording of all reinsurance premiums, losses, commissions, and related transactions. Audits for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reinsurance contract specifications.
Works closely with assumed underwriting team to assure accuracy and completeness of assumed transactions.
Calculates ceded premium, reinstatement premium, commissions, and profit commission transactions per reinsurance contracts specifications.
Prepares ceded premium statements and bordereau. Reviews all invoices/bordereaux with premium, losses, commission, brokerage etc. (including allocation of losses to ASL).
Works directly with brokers, and reinsurance companies to resolve disputed items.
Works with staff to monitor the recoverable aging report.
Reviews reinsurance contracts/agreements and apply parameters to accounting of transactions.
Mitigates non-admitted assets through timely collections of balances due and establishment of LOCs for outstanding liabilities per reinsurance treaty terms.
Reviews initial premium booking with allocation of premiums to annual statement lines (ASL), along with premium adjustments or other endorsements.
Reviews ceded payables and calculates the annual premium adjustments. Collects ceded paid losses / loss expense recoverables.
Manages team that assembles all reinsurance statutory schedules including Schedule F, reinsurance footnote. Reviews relevant balance sheet and income statement line items.
Develops and supervises a team of Accounting personnel.
Provides daily direction to members of the Accounting team. Communicates Mission, Values, and other organization operating principles to direct reports.
Establishes and maintains the overall work cadence and, in partnership with Department leadership, ensures performance and outcomes strive for excellence in delivery and customer experience. Ensures that the entire team is engaged and that leadership practices encourage development, recognition, and retention.
Establishes and adheres to hiring criteria, on-boarding, and training requirements for incoming staff.
Oversees the performance management and development process for the team and performs performance management duties, development planning and coaching for direct reports.
Acts as a resource for team members to answer questions and solve complex problems.
Manages budget, technology and other resources, workload, and customer requests for Department services. Ensures adherence to all Company policies and procedures and Compliance responsibilities.
Ensures data quality, adherence to IT security guidelines, profitability and other risk-related metrics for self and members of the team.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises employees within the Accounting team and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance and salary reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to further their skills and knowledge; creating and monitoring development plans; setting performance expectations/goals; forecasting staffing needs and planning for peak times and absences; enforcing department policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum 5-7 years of related experience in public or private Accounting.
Minimum 5 years of related experience leading, managing, coaching or mentoring a team.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
None required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Must be able to manage multiple accounting operations areas simultaneously.
Broad, in-depth understanding of Accounting principles, concepts, operations, and practices of the business unit.
Highly developed written oral and presentation skills, and ability to effectively interact with management, employees, regulators, and external auditors.
Demonstrated leadership competencies and ability to plan, coordinate and supervise employees, and all aspects of the accounting systems.
Advanced skills in Microsoft suite applications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Office environment – no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands and employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in an office environment and requires the frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment.

The current range for this position is
$90,559.93 - $152,723.07This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate, including experience, education and the location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
