The Quality Intern- Destruct Lab will support Eagle Bend Manufacturing's Quality Destruct Lab by assisting with mechanical testing, metallurgical analysis, weld evaluations, and documentation to ensure products meet internal, customer, and automotive quality standards. This internship provides hands-on experience with destructive and non-destructive testing methods, weld analysis, material performance evaluation, and laboratory data reporting in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment.

This internship provides hands-on experience with destructive and non-destructive testing methods, weld analysis, material performance evaluation, and laboratory data reporting in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with destructive testing including tensile, yield, elongation, hardness, bend, and cut & etch testing under supervision
- Support metallurgical evaluations of welded components using microscopes and related lab equipment
- Assist with weld testing and analysis for MIG, projection, laser, and resistance welds
- Support mechanical and performance testing of materials and coatings
- Collect, analyze, and document test results and lab data in Excel and quality systems
- Assist with hold/release documentation based on lab results under supervisor guidance
- Support PPAP activities through sample testing and data preparation
- Assist with Gauge R&R studies for destruct lab equipment
- Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, Welding, and Quality teams to support root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Follow all IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 procedures and safety requirements
- Maintain lab organization, 5S, and housekeeping standards
Education
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field
- Recent internship experience
Skills
- Strong interest in materials science, metallurgy, or mechanical testing
- High attention to detail and accuracy in testing and documentation
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and specifications
- Basic understanding of mechanical properties of materials
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data entry and basic analysis
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work safely in a lab and manufacturing environment
Qualifications
- Willingness to perform hands-on lab and testing work
- Ability to follow safety procedures and use required PPE
- Comfortable working around industrial equipment and testing tools
- Coursework or lab experience in materials testing, metallurgy, or welding processes
- Familiarity with tensile testing, hardness testing, microstructure analysis, or weld evaluation
