As a Quality Engineer on the Optum Technology team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and quality of software solutions that power health services nationwide. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional software engineering teams to design and execute test strategies, build robust test automation suites, and continuously improve software quality assurance processes. By utilizing modern testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines, you will help deliver innovative healthcare technology that improves patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks for web applications, APIs, and microservices
  • Collaborate with software developers, system architects, and product owners to define acceptance criteria, test strategies, and quality standards throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Execute manual and automated functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end tests to validate application performance and usability
  • Identify, log, track, and manage software defects to resolution using defect management and issue-tracking tools
  • Integrate automated test suites into continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to enable continuous testing
  • Analyze testing results, generate quality metrics, and report test coverage and risk assessments to technical and leadership stakeholders
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and architectural discussions to advocate for quality engineering best practices

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of software quality engineering or software development experience
  • 3+ years of experience in software quality assurance and quality engineering
  • 2+ years of hands-on test automation experience using tools/frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or JUnit/TestNG
  • 2+ years of experience with API testing using tools like Postman, REST Assured, or SoapUI
  • 2+ years of experience writing SQL queries for data validation and database testing
  • 1+ years of experience working within an Agile/Scrum development environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field
  • Experience integrating test automation frameworks into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab)
  • Experience with performance, load, or security testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling)
  • Knowledge of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Background or familiarity with healthcare IT systems, HIPAA compliance, or health data standards

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
