The purpose of this role is to collaborate closely with plant supervisors and production personnel to ensure that all raw materials, supplier‑provided components, and internally manufactured parts meet customer and plant quality specifications. The primary responsibilities include performing full and partial dimensional layouts for new part development and customer/supplier approval, maintaining the gage calibration system, and conducting laboratory measurements that support Production, Engineering, and Quality teams.
The incumbent applies strong knowledge of metrology principles, measurement equipment, and programming to evaluate product quality, reduce nonconforming material costs, and support the achievement of plant and departmental goals.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Lab Equipment Programming — Develop and write programs for laboratory measurement equipment, including CMM, vision CMM, X ray systems, and reliability testing equipment.
- Laboratory Measurement & Quality Documentation — Perform detailed lab measurements and document results to support investigations of quality concerns using CMM, X ray, SEM, and related tools.
- Calibration System Management — Execute and maintain the full calibration system to ensure accuracy and compliance of all measurement devices.
- Receiving Inspection & QAST Confirmation — Verify Receiving Inspection results and support New Model QAST activities to ensure incoming and new model components meet requirements.
- Environmental Testing — Conduct environmental tests and prepare clear, accurate reports on performance and compliance.
- Quality System Documentation — Maintain quality system records, documentation, and reporting to support audits and ongoing compliance.
- Other Duties — Support additional activities such as problem solving, report generation, 6S initiatives, sorting/inspection, and supporting the overall team efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing — Read, interpret, and make objective decisions based on GD&T requirements.
- Metrology Programming — Develop and write measurement programs for CMM systems (MCOSMOS, MiCAT) and vision systems (GEOPAK) to accurately evaluate components.
- Reporting & Documentation — Generate clear, concise, and accurate reports based on specifications and collected measurement data.
- Inspection & Measurement — Inspect, test, and measure products, components, and materials using analytical equipment and precision hand gages.
- Gage Calibration Management — Maintain the gage calibration system, including Gagetrak software administration and coordination with external calibration providers.
- Team Support & Collaboration — Assist team members with new model development, customer requirements, and internal quality or engineering projects.
