Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

We’re looking for a Senior Associate, Policy and Public Affairs to join the Coinbase communications team. This person will be an integral part of our US policy and public affairs comms apparatus. They will drive day-to-day efforts related to driving positive policy outcomes for Coinbase and the crypto community, rapid response, issues management and executive thought leadership. The successful candidate will support all parts of our policy, public affairs and regulatory communications, including efforts focused on Congress, the Executive Branch, Agencies, and important statehouses.

As a communications team member, you will have the opportunity to join the ground floor of a department in a company that is revolutionizing finance and technology. You will set and execute media relations and strategy, support executive communications and work with a broad range of internal stakeholders, partners and customers

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Coinbase’s media relations and strategic presence in critical policy debates within DC and key states across the country.
  • Providing durable and optimized plans to oversee reactive issues management and proactive relationship building with communicators and media in Washington, D.
  • Analyzing policy, media, and influencer commentary to provide crisp memos and evaluation for Coinbase communications leads and the wider Coinbase Public Policy team.
  • Writing quotes, talking points, comms plans and social media for several Coinbase executives, identifying fresh surfaces and audiences for executive content, and providing media preparation and staffing support for media engagements.
  • Actively fostering and maintaining strong relationships with DC and financial and local press. Maintaining solid relationships with and management with communications agencies to ensure solid and clear planning processes.
  • Creatively planning for bipartisan messaging and engagement with traditional press, social and emerging media.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Strong media relationships and pitching skills
  • Operational rigor and strong attention to detail
  • Creative approaches to problem solving
  • Excellent political judgment
  • Strong experience with crisis communications management
  • On-the-record experience and principal messaging support
  • Strong media relationships and pitching skills
  • A strong media and policy network in Washington, DC
  • Comfortable in a campaign-paced environment with shifting priorities and deadlines
  • World-class verbal and written communication skills
  • Hands-on approach across written, social, crisis-response, and proactive communications
  • Political junkie who is obsessed with news, politics, and the policymaking process
  • Strong Twitter presence and fluency in both political and “Crypto Twitter”
  • Communication leadership experience on Capitol Hill, in the Administration or on political campaigns.
