Role Overview:
The Proposal Writer is responsible for creating compelling, client-focused proposal content in response to Requests for Proposal (RFPs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and other customer questionnaires. This position supports strategic sales initiatives across the Group Benefit Solutions (GBS) suite-Life, AD&D, STD, LTD, FMLA/Leave, and Voluntary Benefits-by crafting high-quality, compliant, and persuasive documents that align with client specifications and showcase the company's value proposition.
The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of strategic thinking, project management, exceptional writing skills, and cross-functional collaboration to effectively communicate solutions that win business.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the creation of clear, concise, and customized proposal responses that effectively communicate GBS solutions and competitive advantages.
- Develop original content as well as tailor standard content to meet specific client needs and evaluation criteria.
- Align written content with strategic direction, incorporating input from sales, underwriting, product, legal, and subject matter experts (SMEs).
- Translate complex information into persuasive, reader-friendly language.
Project & Stakeholder Management
- Own and manage the end-to-end proposal process from RFP receipt through submission.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to collect relevant data, define response strategies, and coordinate content development.
- Conduct and lead strategy calls to define win themes, clarify buyer needs, and identify strategic differentiators.
- Set and manage proposal schedules, ensuring timely submission of all components.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance of proposal content with client requirements and internal brand guidelines.
- Review responses for grammatical and factual accuracy, proper tone, flow, and adherence to style guides.
- Drive continual improvements in proposal quality through feedback loops and process refinements.
Content & Knowledge Management
- Maintain knowledge of GBS products, administrative processes, regulatory changes, and market trends.
- Curate and update a library of reusable proposal content and templates.
- Leverage tools like Mimeo and Microsoft Office Suite to develop formatted, client-ready deliverables, including hard-copy proposal binders.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience writing proposals in insurance, healthcare, or financial services sectors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with content management systems and online publishing tools is a plus.
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with diverse teams and manage complex inputs.
