Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

Coinbase is looking for an experienced individual to lead our privacy incident response program. In this role, you will work cross-functionally across Legal, Engineering, Customer Support, Security Incident Response, and Product teams to both respond to incidents and mature the privacy incident response program.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • This role is a combination of business-as-usual incident response work, and program management of the incident response function. We are looking for someone who is an exceptional communicator, thrives in a reactive work environment, and can stay calm and collected under pressure.
  • You will be on-call in the region in which you reside
  • You will influence outcomes in retrospectives and operate in async and live forums. You should also have strong data analysis skills and experience with scripting
  • Create and manage program budget, which includes contractors and FTE’s. Train new hires and contractors on incident management, and coach individuals on areas for improvement.
  • Focus on building awareness of privacy incident response program.
  • Bring attention to key risks exposed in incident trends.
  • Create and maintain internal privacy policies and documentation related to incident response.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with teams within and outside of Security.
  • Introduce automation into our incident response processes, either by building it yourself, or influencing other teams’ roadmaps.
  • Establish metrics and regular reporting structure on incidents; escalate trends in relevant forums.
  • Other projects: When volume is low, you’ll support other Privacy initiatives, such as privacy impact assessments, controls testing, and monitoring key metrics.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • 2+ years of experience and 1+ years of experience working in Privacy or Security
  • 1+ years experience working in incident response
  • Extensive experience with handling technical investigations in cloud-native environments. Experience, or familiarity with crypto, is a plus.
  • Forensics, and/or data analysis experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of building partnerships with product, engineering, legal, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong data analysis and programming skills including SQL, Python, Postgres, MongoDB, Airflow, Looker, and Snowflake or similar technologies.
  • Experience in handling technical investigations and familiarity with forensics.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, able to operate under pressure.

Nice to haves:

  • FinTech experience with an interest in the crypto space
  • BA or BS in a technical field or equivalent experience
  • Relevant certifications, such as CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional), CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), or GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH).
