Summary:The Program Director for the Practical Nursing (PN) Program provides academic, administrative, and clinical leadership to ensure program quality, regulatory compliance, student success, and alignment with institutional mission and accreditation standards. The Program Director oversees curriculum implementation, faculty supervision, clinical partnerships, student progression, and continuous program improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Program Leadership & Administration

  • Provide strategic leadership for the PN program.
  • Ensure compliance with the State Board of Nursing regulations, Institutional policies and regional and programmatic accreditation standards
  • Develop and maintain program policies and procedures.
  • Lead program planning, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory and accrediting bodies.
  • Monitor program outcomes (NCLEX-PN pass rates, retention, completion, job placement).

2. Curriculum Oversight

  • Oversee curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Ensure curriculum reflects current nursing standards and evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain alignment with NCLEX-PN test plan.
  • Lead systematic program evaluation and curriculum revision.
  • Integrate simulation, clinical, and classroom learning experiences.

3. Faculty Supervision & Development

  • Recruit, hire, orient, supervise, and evaluate faculty.
  • Ensure faculty meet state board qualifications.
  • Promote faculty professional development.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative academic environment.

4. Clinical Coordination

  • Establish and maintain clinical partnerships.
  • Ensure clinical sites meet regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee clinical placement and student clinical progression.
  • Maintain affiliation agreements.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate student clinical experiences.

5. Student Oversight

  • Participate in student admissions decisions.
  • Monitor student progression and remediation.
  • Address student concerns and grievances.
  • Ensure due process and fairness.
  • Promote student success and NCLEX readiness.

6. Budget & Resource Management

  • Assist in development and oversight of program budget.
  • Ensure adequate instructional resources.
  • Oversee laboratory and simulation resources.
  • Maintain equipment and technology standards.

7. Accreditation & Regulatory Compliance

  • Serve as primary liaison to the State Board of Nursing and accrediting agencies
  • Lead self-study preparation and site visits.
  • Maintain documentation for compliance and reporting.
  • Implement corrective action plans as needed

8. Community & Professional Engagement

  • Represent the program in professional organizations.
  • Maintain relationships with healthcare agencies.
  • Participate in advisory committee meetings.
  • Promote program visibility and workforce partnerships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of NCLEX-PN blueprint and outcomes tracking.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Data-driven decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Working Conditions

  • Office, classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
  • May require travel to clinical sites.
  • Occasional evening or weekend commitments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate nursing skills in laboratory and clinical settings.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and computer use
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of employment.
  • Associate’s degree in nursing (ADN or A.A.S.) 
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing education experience.
  • Knowledge of state board regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher

Experience with:

    • Accreditation processes
    • Curriculum design
    • Simulation-based education
    • Program assessment and evaluation
  • Experience preparing for state board or accreditation site visits.
  • Budget management experience.
