Job Description

Your mission:

Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Your mission is to shape the Product Risk and Compliance Program, for Wise to offer its services to many more Customers in our NorthAm market. You will do this by partnering with Wise Banking and Product teams to grow our existing products, get new licenses and launch new products across the US and Canada.

This is a first line of defence hands-on role, embedded in the Regional Product Squad.

You will be part of a growing the Product Compliance and Risk team, owning projects and making decisions in the following areas:

Regulatory:

  • Translate and implement regulatory requirements for Product and Engineering teams, facilitating seamless execution, with particular emphasis on Canadian and OCC regulatory and risk expectations.

  • Determine when local regulatory requirements can be met through existing global controls and when unique requirements necessitate prioritization, optimizing for the utilization of existing controls where feasible.

  • Evaluate Canadian market regulatory obligations and ensure the adequacy of Wise’s current approach.

  • Develop a scalable methodology for collaboration with the second line of defense (2LOD) and manage an evolving regulatory landscape.

Risk and Controls:

  • Manage and drive the successful and compliant launch of new licenses and products across the US and Canada.

  • Lead discussions with Wise’s external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, and banking partners, providing clarity on products, controls, and governance approach.

  • Define Regulatory and Financial Crime Risk metrics to assess the health of Wise’s new licenses and products in the US and Canada.

  • Identify opportunities to enable growth, streamline compliance processes, or expedite operational processes.

Reporting and External Engagement:

  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the United States and Canada Compliance and Risk Program to internal and external stakeholders (Global Committees, Regulators, Internal and External Audit, Banking Partners).

  • Support Regulatory, Financial Crime, and Risk discussions with clear action plans and updates on previously identified issues and emerging risks.

  • Participate in industry association initiatives relevant to Wise’s markets and actively represent Wise in legislative and regulatory consultations.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Grow your hands-on Fintech knowledge at full speed

  • Keep Compliance right at the heart of the product and engineering development cycle, in a fast-moving environment

  • Support and drive new product and license launches alongside banking and product teams

Qualifications

About you:

  • Compliance background in a global organization, ideally with 1LOD experience overseeing new products/licenses, is essential.

  • Experience across multiple compliance areas (e.g., Reg E, BSA/AML, FINRA/FINTRAC) and building compliance programs from the ground up are key.

  • Must be able to drive data-informed business decisions.

  • Must be able to own projects end-to-end.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

  • Must be analytical.

  • Experience in a fast-growing environment and willingness to travel are required.

  • Canadian experience is a plus!
