About Colonist

We're building the biggest digital board game platform on the internet. Last year, our players spent 2,466 years playing 45 million games on our Settlers of Catan alternative. We're a fully remote, asynchronous team spread across multiple continents, focused on crafting extremely polished digital board games that people truly love.

About The Role

As a Product Manager at Colonist, you’ll own high-impact product work across mobile and web, focused on improving onboarding, retention, and game completion. You’ll turn player insights into smart, scalable solutions — balancing fun, simplicity, and performance. Working async with a small, fast team, you’ll drive strategy, execution, and outcomes for a game played by millions.

What You’ll Do

  • Optimize user activation funnels by identifying drop-offs, validating hypotheses, and shipping improvements.

  • Investigate mobile product issues using user feedback, crash reports, and behavioral data.

  • Conduct user interviews, playtests, and qualitative research to inform product decisions.

  • Prioritize and scope features based on simplicity, impact, and company goals.

  • Improve game completion rates through design iterations and player motivation insights.

  • Break down complex projects into clear, testable steps and align teams around execution.

  • Improve onboarding, landing pages, and community-driven features to support growth.

  • Collaborate asynchronously with founders, engineers, and designers to drive product outcomes.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in funnel analysis, A/B testing, and user segmentation

  • Strong experience with user interviews, playtesting, and qualitative analysis

  • Deep understanding of mobile product development and UX best practices

  • Clear, structured written communication for async collaboration

  • SQL proficiency (joins, group by) for data-driven decision making

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, scope, and deliver product improvements quickly

  • Familiarity with game design, player behavior, and motivating user engagement

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with crash reports and debugging tools

  • Experience with AI chatbots for user engagement

  • Ability to read code for deeper collaboration with devs

  • Forum/community moderation or support experience

Our Values at Colonist

We strongly adhere to these values in our team - if these resonate, then you’ll love working here!

Dependability

We're self-driven players who deliver without needing supervision. When we commit to something, we make it happen.

Ownership

We take full responsibility and go beyond our roles to improve Colonist. Each of us acts like we own the company, because through our stock options, we do.

Clear Communication

In our remote environment, written communication is key. We're direct, structured, and always keep our team in the loop.

Efficient Execution

We move fast and focus on impact. Instead of getting stuck on perfect solutions, we find practical ways forward and get things done.

Continuous Learning

We're curious problem solvers who love a challenge. We constantly seek new ideas, embrace feedback, and aren't afraid to change our minds when we're wrong.
