About Helm Health
At Helm, we are a Series A start-up transforming health insurance with "Dynamic Copay" – a new insurance plan that lets members see simple, upfront prices for all medical care before making decisions. Our team is building the infrastructure to power these plans for health insurance payors. With Helm, our clients offer simpler health plans to their members, helping them navigate to higher-value care.

Our team has specialized in Dynamic Copay solutions since 2020, and Helm is the only independent platform in the market. We have grown rapidly since our launch, working with clients from local health plans to the nation's largest health insurers. The market is forming around us, making it an exciting time to join!

The Role
We're seeking a Product Manager to own and evolve our core healthcare APIs, including claims, eligibility (270/271), and provider search. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, data, and external integrations, and is responsible for building reliable, scalable APIs that power internal products and partner use cases.

Responsibilities
  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for:
    • Eligibility APIs (270/271)
    • Claims-related APIs
    • Provider search APIs
  • Translate payer, provider, and partner requirements into clear API specs and contracts.
  • Work closely with engineering to define endpoints, schemas, versioning, SLAs, and error handling.
  • Partner with internal product teams to ensure APIs meet downstream product needs
  • Manage API lifecycle: discovery → design → launch → iteration → deprecation
  • Define success metrics (latency, uptime, adoption, correctness, partner satisfaction)
  • Support partner onboarding and troubleshoot integration issues when needed
  • Ensure APIs are compliant with healthcare standards and best practices

Requirements
  • 3–6+ years of Product Management experience, with significant API ownership
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data flows, mainly:
    • Eligibility (270/271)
    • Claims (837/835 familiarity is a plus)
  • Experience working closely with backend engineers
  • Comfortable writing detailed PRDs, API specs, and acceptance criteria
  • Ability to balance partner needs with internal platform scalability
  • Clear communicator who can work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Prior experience in health tech, payer integrations, or clearinghouses
  • Experience with provider search or directory data
  • Familiarity with FHIR or other healthcare interoperability standards

Characteristics
  • Excitement about Helm's product and a belief in what we are building
  • Self-directed; comfortable recommending next steps based on limited information
  • Ability to effectively document and communicate complex information
  • Comfortable advocating for support, prioritization, or whatever else you believe is needed for success in your functional area
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Willing to ask questions and admit what you don't know
  • Able to dive into the weeds while maintaining a grasp of the big picture
  • An attitude that no work is below you - we are a start-up, and sometimes need all hands on deck in areas outside of our core responsibilities

Internal Tools/Technology
  • Slack / Google Workspace / Zoom
  • Linear / Whimsical / Notion

Compensation
The target base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 and is part of a competitive total rewards package including equity and benefits. Individual pay is flexible, may vary from the target range, and is determined by several factors, including experience, skills, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.

Benefits/Offerings
  • Equity
  • Unlimited PTO (mandatory 12 days)
  • Computer + home office stipend
  • 401(k) + matching
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Autonomy and tons of room for career growth

Occasional Travel
We meet quarterly as a company.

Please note that this is a fully remote opportunity.
