Lead the vision and execution of Wealthsimple's design system, manage a designer, and collaborate with teams to evolve the visual language and improve design processes.
Your career is an investment that grows over time!
Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money. Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing, opaque and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone. We’re the largest fintech company in Canada, with over 4 million users who trust us with more than $80 billion in assets.
Our teams ship often and make an impact with groundbreaking ideas. We're looking for talented people who keep it simple and value collaboration and humility as we continue to create inclusive and high-performing teams where people can be inspired to do their best work.
About the team:
At Wealthsimple, design is a competitive advantage and essential to achieving our mission of helping Canadians reach financial freedom. We are also client-obsessed - our empathy for our clients sets the bar really high for the products and experiences we create.
The Design System team is responsible for Wealthsimple's unified design language and component library that powers consistent, scalable experiences across our mobile and web platforms. We establish the visual foundations, interaction patterns, and design standards that enable our product teams to build cohesive experiences efficiently while maintaining the highest quality bar. Our team serves as the bridge between design vision and execution, empowering R&D teams to move faster without sacrificing craft or consistency by providing the tools, components, documentation, and guidance they need.
In this role you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Be a player-coach, managing 1 Designer and leading the vision and execution of our design system for the mobile app and web platform.
- Alongside the Design Systems Engineering Manager, own and set a strategic vision and roadmap for the Design System team, working closely with R&D teams to inform and improve upon the system.
- Partner with designers across R&D teams to define and continuously evolve the visual language of our app, leading the hands-on design and implementation of typography, color, iconography and componentry.
- Develop and improve the tools, resources and documentation to support the system while establishing a contribution model that streamlines how multiple product teams build and systematize components.
- Deeply understand our teams' experiences and challenges in order to further simplify, improve and adapt the design system to their needs.
- Provide regular, ongoing support and guidance to teams using and contributing to the design system, serving as an evangelist for the design system within the design org and creating clarity through strong communication and shared context.
- Bias towards action, identifying gaps, holes or areas of improvement and rallying the team to fix them.
What you’ll bring:
- Exceptional craft in interaction and visual design, with a portfolio demonstrating sophisticated component design, design tokens, and systematic approaches to consumer-facing products.
- Experience leading design systems at scale
- Strong strategic and systems thinking–you can shape vision for scalable design foundations, prioritize ruthlessly across platform needs, and partner with engineering and product teams to make it happen.
- Ability to lead through ambiguity in the evolving design systems space, and knows how to build alignment and adoption across multiple product teams and disciplines.
- Passionate about creating design foundations that make investing more accessible, transparent, and rewarding for everyone.
Why join us?
- A high-impact leadership role shaping a core pillar of Wealthsimple’s business and growth.
