Job Description

Albemarle is hiring for a Process Safety and Environmental Specialist. This position is located in Kings Mountain NC, in-office.

What You Will Do

As a Process Safety and Environmental Specialist, you will support both environmental compliance and process safety initiatives at our Kings Mountain manufacturing site. Your responsibilities will include:

Process Safety Responsibilities

  • Evaluate projects and operational changes for process safety compliance.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific process safety procedures.

  • Administer the incident management system and ensure timely resolution.

  • Conduct gap analyses and recommend improvements.

  • Collaborate with process engineers on PHAs and risk evaluations.

  • Enhance documentation and knowledge sharing for hazard assessments.

  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes and track key metrics.

  • Participate in HSE audits and manage corrective actions.

  • Contribute to incident investigations and long-term solutions.

  • Monitor mechanical integrity programs with maintenance teams.

  • Ensure compliance with process safety policies and best practices.

  • Drive continuous improvement in process safety tools and training.

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with NCDEQ programs (air, RCRA, stormwater, wastewater).

  • Prepare and submit environmental reports.

  • Conduct process checks and follow up on corrective actions.

  • Support environmental risk assessments and mitigation strategies.

  • Administer the environmental incident management system.

  • Assist in environmental audits and inspections.

  • Develop and deliver environmental training programs.

  • Support sustainability initiatives to reduce environmental impact.

  • Engage with stakeholders to address environmental concerns.

What You Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in process engineering, chemical engineering, or related process safety and environmental experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure, be self-driven, and quickly learn new concepts.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) in the chemical industry.

  • Familiarity with Process Hazard & Risk Assessment tools.

  • Experience facilitating Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

  • Knowledge of OSHA PSM standards and engineering codes (API, NFPA, ASME).
