Who You Are

The Principal/Sr Software Engineer (Backend) plays a crucial role in developing, maintaining, and optimizing the server-side components of our platform, as well as driving the technical vision, architecture, and strategy for our platform to ensure the successful execution of projects. They mentor, train, and unblock engineers of varying skill and experience levels, and are seen as a technical expert in their field. 

What You’ll Do

  • Create efficient, maintainable, testable and reusable code.
  • Audit existing codebase to improve performance.
  • Technical Leadership 
    • Provide hands-on technical mentorship and guidance to engineers. 
    • Help set our technical direction, establish best practices, promote the use of AI tools & solutions, and ensure adherence to industry standards for software development.
  • Code Quality and Standards
    • Drive a culture of code excellence, promoting clean, robust, and testable code. 
    • Conduct code reviews and implement processes to uphold coding standards.
  • Architecture and Design
    • Share ownership for the architectural decisions for the platform, ensuring scalability, performance, and security. 
    • Develop features with security best-practices in mind.
    • Conceptualize and implement solutions for data storage.
    • Work closely with product managers and UX designers to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Mentorship & Development
    • Serve as a mentor and trainer for all other engineers, independent of experience level; spend a dedicated amount of time each week to 1:1s, code reviews, and/or general knowledge sharing.
    • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on developing newly designed systems.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with a substantial portion in building B2B SaaS products.
  • Proven ability to work in multiple programming languages simultaneously; to read, analyze, and optimize previously written code.
  • Proficient in relational databases and distributed systems.
  • Proficient in writing infrastructure as code with Helm and/or Terraform
  • Proficient in developing a public REST API.
  • Practical experience scaling systems in Kubernetes.
  • Experience integrating system monitoring tools (e.g. Datadog, Sentry) to demonstrate high reliability and availability metrics.

What We Offer

Compensation

Annual base salary is anticipated to be between $175,000.00 and $195,000.00 per year. Eligible employees may also receive incentive, commission, equity, and/or annual bonus pay based on individual and company performance. Compensation may vary based on factors such as, but not limited to, individual skills, experience, training, education/certifications, geographic location, internal equity, and local market conditions and demands.
