The Role

We’re looking for a Staff/Principal-level Engineer who combines systems thinking with hands-on execution. This is not an ivory tower role: you’ll lead through code, experimentation, and pragmatic decision-making. You’ll design and implement critical systems, anticipate technical dependencies, and drive alignment across product and engineering teams as we build Suzy 3.0.

You’ll be a key technical leader working on foundational systems for real-time consumer signals, conversational AI, and high-scale data pipelines.

What You’ll Do

• Design & Architect: Define and evolve the architecture of Suzy 3.0, focusing on scalability, resilience, and performance.

• Build & Lead by Example: Write production-quality code across services and components; mentor others through code reviews and pairing.

• Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with Product, Data, Security, and Infra teams to anticipate dependencies and make pragmatic tradeoffs.

• Experiment & Deliver: Drive proof-of-concepts in areas like AI-driven natural language processing, mobile-first engagement, and real-time analytics.

• Own Key Systems: Lead initiatives for:

  • Suzy Speaks → mobile-first conversational feedback, voice/text interfaces, sentiment analysis.

  • Suzy Signals → real-time market data ingestion, trend detection, and reporting pipelines.

  • AskSuzy → AI-powered Q&A workflows, semantic search, and insights automation.

• Scale & Secure: Ensure reliability, compliance, and observability at scale.
  

Technologies We Use (and you may touch)

• Backend: .NET (C#), Node.js, TypeScript, Python

• Data & Analytics: Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, Airflow, MongoDB

• AI/ML (optional): LLM orchestration (OpenAI/Anthropic, LangChain), vector search (Pinecone/Weaviate/FAISS), sentiment models

• Frontend & Mobile: React, Angular, Blazor, MAUI

• Infra: Kubernetes, Docker, Azure (AKS, Storage, Functions, API Management)

• Observability & Ops: Azure Monitor + Log Analytics + Application Insights (primary); plus OpenTelemetry, Terraform/Pulumi, GitHub Actions or Azure Pipelines, Helm/Argo CD/Flux
  

Who You Are

• 10+ years of engineering experience with increasing scope, including Staff/Principal responsibilities.

• Proven ability to design, build, and operate large-scale distributed systems.

• Fluent in at least one systems-level language (C#/.NET, Go, Rust, or similar) and one scripting language (TypeScript, Python, etc.).

• Strong understanding of data pipelines, real-time event streaming, and system observability.

• Experience building AI/ML-enabled applications or integrating third-party AI/LLM APIs is a plus.

• Anticipates dependencies and aligns teams without blocking delivery.

• A builder’s mindset: pragmatic, hands-on, comfortable with ambiguity, thrives in startup environments.

• Strong communicator who influences through clarity and code.

• The target base compensation for this role is $180,000 - $200,000 / yr.
