About the role

As a Principal Product Manager for Data Platforms, you will lead the development of self-service tooling to enable data mesh transformation at Zillow Group. You will be responsible for driving the strategy, execution, and adoption of data platforms that empower our engineering teams to deliver high-quality, innovative products efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Product Strategy and Execution: Define and execute the product vision and roadmap for data platforms, aligning with business objectives and customer needs.

  • Drive Data Mesh Transformation: Spearhead the transformation to a data mesh approach, ensuring that our data platforms are scalable, reliable, and user-friendly.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Data Science, and AI teams to prioritize and deliver high-quality products.

  • Customer Focus: Develop and maintain a deep understanding of platform customers and their needs, ensuring that our products are designed for optimal user experience.

  • Mentorship and Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of talented product managers, setting clear objectives, providing guidance, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

  • Industry Expertise: Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation in our data platforms.

  • Product Lifecycle Management: Manage the product lifecycle from concept to launch, including gathering requirements, user testing, and post-launch analysis to measure effectiveness and drive improvements.

  • Go-to-Market Strategies: Drive product adoption and success through effective go-to-market strategies and ongoing customer engagement.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $173,300.00 - $276,800.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in product management, with a focus on data platforms and engineering excellence.

  • Track Record: Proven track record of successfully delivering internal platforms that are so valuable that customers choose to use them.

  • Technical Skills: Strong technical background with experience in data platforms, API, and eventing platforms.

  • Leadership: Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.

  • Problem-Solving: Skilled at reducing migration fatigue by building well-formed platforms and services that automate pain points.

  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead discussions with executive team members, product managers, designers, and engineers.
