DIRECTV is seeking a Principal, IT Software Engineer 2 with a solid foundation in backend development and microservices/distributed systems for enterprise-scale applications. The engineer must be a motivated self-starter with a passion to understand customer needs and develop products/APIs that meet those needs. Key characteristics of this role include excellent strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills along with the ability to lead and operate in a highly collaborative environment. The engineer will be responsible for short term (sprint-to-sprint) and long term (multiple PIs) initiatives, as well as organizing delivery plans to meet the short- and long-term targets.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Ensure API security and performance. Oversee assessments and mitigation of vulnerabilities for APIs exposed over the internet.
  • Governance for all aspects of application design including performance optimization and technical debt reduction.
  • Serve as a technical lead for a set of teams and provide technical best practice oversight.
  • Articulate and present technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ownership (architecture, design, implementation, and deployment) of complex software components and systems.
  • Active participant in the development community (Business Unit) to promote best practices through educating peers.
  • Mentor junior team members on the Scrum team or development team, providing consistent guidance on technical approach and best practices.
  • Manage risk and request help from leadership, when necessary, to meet commitments or change directions.
  • This role may require daily guidance/support of vendor personnel and oversight of other assigned resources.

Here's what you'll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5 – 7 years of software delivery experience in a 24/7 environment.
  • Experience working with SaaS systems preferred.
  • Background developing various AWS software solutions services.
  • Previous working knowledge with Kubernetes, preferably AWS EKS, and custom-developed applications (e.g., Java).
  • Experience with incident management processes.
  • Excellent understanding of building API platforms.
  • Outstanding communications skills, written and verbal.
  • A bias for action and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Independent problem solver with a customer- and client-focused approach.

May require a background check due to job duties requiring routine access to DIRECTV and DIRECTV customer’s proprietary data. Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction will be considered for employment in accordance with local ordinances and state law.

DIRECTV's compensation structure is designed to be market-competitive and fully supports efforts to attract and retain employees. It is the company's policy to offer pay that is competitive with other employers in the local market. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

The Base Salary range displayed below reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for each of DIRECTV's 4 (four) US Labor Market Zones. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

DIRECTV WAGE ZONES: $140,790 - $255,530

Low (N1): $140,790 - $211,090

Mid (N2): $148,200 - $222,200

High (N3): $163,020 - $244,420

Top (N4): $170,430 - $255,530
