We’re financing the future of energy

Crux is the capital platform for the clean economy. We modernize capital raising and deployment for clean energy and critical infrastructure with solutions across advisory, investments, technology, and intelligence.

Our team of 95+ is composed of experts in energy, tax, finance, government, and technology. We have raised $77 million in capital from some of the best investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, New System Ventures, Overture, Ardent Venture Partners, QED, Canapi, and others. These funds are joined by strategic investors including Pattern Energy, Clearway Energy, EDF Renewables, Intersect Power, LS Power, Orsted, Hartree Partners, Liberty Mutual Strategic Ventures, MassMutual Ventures, and OMERS Ventures.

An inflection point in American energy and manufacturing

Energy demand is growing for the first time in decades, driving an urgent need for more affordable and reliable electricity. More electricity requires new clean energy infrastructure and strong domestic supply chains for minerals and components — as well as large amounts of capital.

Traditional project financing is opaque, fragmented, and analog. At Crux, we’re changing that. Through unmatched insights and expertise, white-glove service, purpose-built tools, and risk underwriting, we power a more prosperous, clean, and secure energy future.

We are scaling quickly and looking for team members who are eager to combine deep expertise with an AI- and tech-forward mindset.

The Opportunity

The Principal, Investment Management is a senior member of Crux’s Investments team, reporting directly to the Head of Investments. This is an execution-focused role requiring strong transaction leadership skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders across complex renewable energy financings.

The Principal will take ownership of live transactions — leading document negotiations, preparing and presenting investment opportunities for Investment Committee approval, and engaging directly with both developer/sponsor clients and investor partners. This role requires proven experience in renewable energy tax equity, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to balance detailed transaction execution with broader relationship management.

What You'll Do
  • Lead transaction execution for tax equity and preferred equity investments, including negotiations with sponsors, investors, and external advisors.

  • Prepare and present investment opportunities to Investment Committee, highlighting economics, structural terms, risks, and mitigants.

  • Oversee and review financial models developed by team members; provide guidance on assumptions, sensitivities, and risk cases.

  • Collaborate with Legal, Tax, and Risk teams to resolve key issues and ensure compliance with IRS rules, safe harbor tests, and recapture protections.

  • Adept at managing client relationships on both sides of the market — developers/sponsors and investors — ensuring clear communication and smooth execution.

  • Support business development by identifying opportunities to scale programmatic relationships with high-quality sponsors and investors.

  • Mentor and guide junior team members, providing training on modeling, execution, and best practices.

  • Use technology and AI-enabled tools to streamline diligence, negotiations, and investment committee preparation.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field; MBA, JD, or advanced degree a plus.

  • Minimum of 6–8 years of experience in renewable energy, structured finance, or infrastructure investing, with direct experience leading tax equity transactions.

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate transaction documents (partnership flips, T-flips, preferred equity structures; sale-leaseback a plus).

  • Strong financial modeling skills and ability to review/analyze complex partnership models.

  • Deep understanding of IRS requirements, safe harbor rules, allocation methodologies, and recapture provisions.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong capabilities or desire to rapidly advance leveraging technology and AI to enhance investment execution and portfolio management.

  • FINRA SIE, Series 79 and 63 required or willingness to obtain under Crux’s broker-dealer sponsorship.

    • Build and improve rapidly: We move quickly. To do that, we focus, consistently ask ourselves if we are prioritizing the right things, and execute them as best as possible.

    • Focus unremittingly on customers: Our first obligation is to our customers and partners, and we keep their needs front and center in everything we do.

    • Demonstrate ownership: We are all owners of Crux. This is our team, our company, our product and we show that to each other.

    • Convene a team that reflects the breadth of experiences in the country: We’re building a team with a wide range of backgrounds and a culture where everyone can thrive.
