Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to support CTO Automation and internally developed applications. This senior-level position leads system design and architecture in partnership with Enterprise Architecture and senior developers to deliver technology solutions for Automation products, internally developed applications including:
- Major Incident Management (MIM application)
- Site Reliability Engineering - internally developed applications
- Workload scheduling (Autosys, CA7)
In this role, you will:
- Create target state vision through design standards and patterns.
- Review and approve new standards, patterns, and practices.
- Document current state through technical design documentation.
- Advise on implementation design to ensure alignment with best practices.
- Provide strategic direction and expertise to leadership on innovative business solutions.
- Engage with professionals and managers across the enterprise to influence product roadmaps and drive adoption.
- Build strong relationships with Enterprise Architecture and Technology Principals.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Principal Engineers, and internal customers to develop scalable solutions.
- Lead support for critical applications and customer journeys, including high-priority incident resolution and postmortems.
- Automate operational metrics and processes (e.g., intake, availability, SLO/SLI adherence, error budgets).
- Maintain awareness of industry best practices and recommend innovations.
- Own the full software development lifecycle from concept to deployment.
- Stay current on emerging trends in AI, software development, and system architecture.
- Advocate for software engineering best practices, including test-driven development and continuous delivery.
- Contribute to internal forums and communities of practice.
- 7+ years of engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military service, or education.
- 5+ years designing and building observability solutions (Splunk, Grafana, Elastic, AppDynamics, Prometheus).
- 5+ years of engineering and support experience on Linux/Unix and Windows servers.
- 3+ years of experience with cloud technologies.
- 3+ years supporting enterprise-level complex applications and platforms.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong technical communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Robust experience with modern SDLC and CI/CD practices.
- Strong proficiency in React and its ecosystem (Redux, React Router, etc.).
- Familiarity with Selenium, Playwright, and/or Cypress for automated testing.
- Experience supporting both in-house and commercial off-the-shelf software.
- Self-starter with curiosity to learn new technologies and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Agile Scrum and Kanban methodologies.
