JOB SUMMARY
Individual contributor responsible for providing technology leadership in developing wireless access technologies including mobile, RF design, and deployment support related to 4G/5G WiFi and other emerging technologies. Drives the wireless technology roadmap with stakeholders, i.e. Product organization, Engineering and Operations, as well as vendors and MSO partners. Responsible for defining and developing Charter's wireless access technology initiatives enabling wireless. Major contribution expected in the research, development and integration of wireless/wireline. Recognized as the technical and design expert. Leads design teams and advises team leaders.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible primarily for the research, development, hands-on integration and evaluation of early stage emerging technology solutions
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Assigned the most complex and critical projects that involve several technical systems and constituents.
  • Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas.
  • Assess new product requirements, develop technology and architecture solutions and evaluate performance.
  • Produces Technical Bulletins, methods of procedures, and other relevant technical documentation to enable handover from proof of concept stage to trial teams / wireless operations to deploy and manage any new wireless network infrastructure. Will provide expertise throughout the handover period by participating to the trials on need basis.
  • Responsible for new technology development and validation to include: Studying new technology trends, impacts of such technologies on Charter's wireless strategy and services offering(s), and validating capabilities of such through lab evaluation and possibly field trials.
  • Contributes to intellectual property creation, patent filing and promotion of such IP through contribution to relevant standards and industry forums.
  • Explores/invents new services/use cases for Charter business initiatives.
  • Supports Charters' mobile strategy to assess the feasibility of new business opportunities such as Automotive, smart home technologies, assessment of 5G's impact to the wired high-speed data business, and next-generation wireless video compression technologies on Charter's video distribution business.
  • Assists in developing a technology evolution roadmap (3-5 years) articulating strategic decision points, technology evolution plan and recommendations with regard to technology and network infrastructure investments.
  • Recommends to Product Development opportunities and approaches to optimize cost, reduce complexity and improve user experience.
  • Help drive innovative technologies and approaches for increasing performance, reliability, and quality of experience for customers while driving down CPE cost.
  • Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements.
  • Mentors and guides the work of senior technical staff.
  • Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
  • Knows, understands and follows company policy.
  • Performs other duties as requested by manager.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Master expert knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
  • Master expert knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
  • Master expert knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
  • Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
  • Master expert knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances
  • Master expert knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio
  • Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications


Required Education

  • Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience


Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years

  • Engineering work experience - 16+
  • Project management work experience - 16+


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of company products and services
  • Master expert knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Wireless and cellular 4G/5G RAN and Core, IoT, IP Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
  • Master expert knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
  • Expert knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model - VLANs, subnets, etc.
  • Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
  • Master expert knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances , setup, configuration and troubleshooting of wireless network.
  • Operational experience with LTE, LTE-A, WiFi including industrial technology domain
  • Proven hands-on expertise in UE debugging and network test equipment tools (QXDM, XCAL, XCAP, TEMS, etc.)
  • Able to lead complex projects with a matrix team of engineers at junior and senior levels across different organizations.
  • Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management
  • Ability to manage and deliver against several initiatives simultaneously
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications
  • Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)
  • Vendor Experience (e.g. Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, Commscope, Cisco etc.)
  • RF design, capacity and dimensioning experience (using tools like Atoll/Planet/iBWave etc.)
  • Project Management and project coordination expertise required


Preferred Education

  • MBA or MSc
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)

The base pay for this position generally is between
$138,800.00 and $246,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
