Digital Manufacturing Engineering (DME) is part of the Corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC).  The ETC is a technical resource for training, standards, project implementation, and the center of engineering excellence for the corporation, providing deeply technical resources to solve the most intractable technical problems in manufacturing. DME provides Digital Engineering Platform ownership, OT data integration solutions, engineering data standardization/ownership, and digital manufacturing solutions for Lilly Manufacturing. Our team focuses on connecting our facilities (securely) and leveraging the data from those facilities to deliver digital manufacturing solutions to improve manufacturing productivity, data integrity / compliance, quality, and operational excellence. Digital Manufacturing Technologies include digital twins, computational modeling, edge/IoT, and analytics solutions. Digital Engineering Platforms include CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), GECMS (Global Engineering Content Management System) and many other digital platforms leveraged by engineers across Lilly Manufacturing.

Position Description and Responsibilities:

The Principal Engineer – Product Owner will lead development of technical solutions supporting the Engineering Digital Strategy for Manufacturing and Quality within Lilly, focusing on engineering monitoring solutions (Equipment Performance Monitoring, Asset Qualification Monitoring, AI Monitoring, etc.). The role will be the corporate technical Subject Matter Expert for Lilly engineering on Digital Twins used for monitoring applications. This is a global role, supporting functional initiatives and all Lilly Manufacturing sites globally.

This role is a mid-to-senior level engineering role which requires high learning agility, strong understanding of engineering business processes and problems within pharmaceutical manufacturing, understanding of industrial data, and knowledge of development and use of Digital Twins in a manufacturing environment. The primary focus of the role is product ownership of Digital Twin monitoring solutions that are focused on increasing manufacturing capacity, resilience, compliance, and inspection readiness, along with supporting our operational excellence goals for safety, quality, and supply. These Digital Twin solutions will focus on assets with a goal of improving manufacturing asset performance.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Product Owner for Digital Twin monitoring solutions such as Equipment Performance Monitoring, Asset Qualification Monitoring, and AI Monitoring solutions.
  • Developing and owning business requirements for engineering monitoring solutions.
  • Partner with site engineering teams to develop Digital Twin Monitoring Solution requirements and feature roadmaps.
  • Ensure the solutions focus on value generation.
  • Drive site adoption of Digital Twin monitoring solutions.
  • Partnership with Lilly MQ Tech@Lilly (IT) organization development of Digital Twin Monitoring Solutions.
  • Digital Upskilling of broader engineering organization on data concepts and technology uses.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related science field (e.g. Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering).
  • Minimum 4 years manufacturing experience in engineering roles.
  • Experience developing digital twins of manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with validated systems.
  • Experience in pharma or GMP industry.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Knowledge of manufacturing datasets.
  • Experience with leveraging data to solve problems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work well with different cultures.
  • Experience working as a Product Owner on agile projects.

Additional Information

  • Monday through Friday Day Shift of 7:30am-4:30pm with some allowance for flex time.
  • Location: Indianapolis, IN
  • Travel: Limited Domestic and International travel required (less than 10%)

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$97,500 - $181,500

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
