Principal Cloud Platform Engineer

Position Purpose:

Manages the technical approach and decisions as it relates to the configuration of software and infrastructure services on the cloud platform. Manages cloud infrastructure as code. Automates deployment and administration. Develops plan to ensure security of cloud components. Partners with the DevOps team to spearhead and lead upgrades, enhancements, and software migrations to drive the successful deployment of cloud infrastructure and applications.

• Leads projects and teams of cloud engineers who build and support the administration of cloud-based environments
• Establishes and develops code-based CI/CD deployment standards and best-practices for new and existing cloud infrastructure and services
• Leads and directs the implementation of monitoring solutions that give greater visibility into performance and reliability of cloud environments, develops and disseminates monitoring standards and best practices
• Articulates platform infrastructure best practices based on expert knowledge and understanding of multiple technology solutions
• Leads and partners with Development, Network and Security groups to integrate their requirements in all environment build plans
• Impacts and drives decisions with Enterprise Architecture on the delivery of platform, data, and application architecture
• Mentors and impacts relevant operational and build teams to construct testing and implementation strategies
• Ensures the execution and completion of capacity plans to include cloud based deployments
• Leads the development and implementation of design, build, and deploy cloud applications, including large-scale data processing and advanced analytics
• Delivers continuous integration and delivery pipeline and standards by enabling common DevSecOps tooling in cloud environment and providing development teams with the ability to execute builds, run tests, and deploy in automated fashion
• Facilitates people management and resourcing; defining roles and responsibilities, staff reviews/appraisals, recruitment/dismissals and staff training
• Serves as an expert technical adviser to management and provides platform and cloud engineering perspective on system requirements
• Informs on project delivery progress in relation to cloud platform environment build and maintenance
• Participates in mitigation and control activities as well as identifying and evaluating risks
• Creates conceptual and detailed technical design documents
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Complies with all policies and standards

Education/Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science) and requires deep functional and Centene specific knowledge with 6 – 8 years of related experience.
Or equivalent experience acquired through accomplishments of applicable knowledge, duties, scope and skill reflective of the level of this position.
Technical Skills:

• Experience with one or more of the following: Cloud Computing Architecture; Cloud Computing Security; Cloud Engineering; Cloud Infrastructure
• Experience with one or more of the following: Amazon Web Services; Microsoft Azure
• Experience with one or more of the following: Information Security Network Environments; Network Performance; TCP/IP Networking; Virtual Private Network (VPN)
• Deep understanding of Cloud Platforms (AWS or Azure): This includes mastering core services, their functionalities, and how they integrate. Expertise in areas like compute, storage, networking, security, and databases is essential
• Security: A strong grasp of cloud security principles and best practices is vital. This includes securing resources, access control, identity management, and incident response
• Automation and Scripting: Writing infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like CloudFormation (AWS), Azure Resource Manager (ARM), TerraForm or Ansible
• Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Being able to proactively monitor cloud infrastructure for performance and identify and troubleshoot issues efficiently is critical. Dynatrace, Splunk, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor
• Deep knowledge of cloud virtualization and compute technologies. AWS EC2 & Lambda, Azure Virtual Machines and Functions, Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, AKS
• Deep knowledge of networking technology. DNS, routing, and firewall concepts and troubleshooting
• Experience with one or more of the following: Programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, C, C++, C#, Python, Golang
• Experience with one or more of the following: Automation languages such as Shell Scripting, Python, PowerShell, Perl, Bash, etc.
• Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture
• Knowledge of Change Management
