The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Principal AWS Cloud Engineer, you serve as a senior technical authority in designing, building, and optimizing secure, scalable, and compliant AWS cloud solutions. This role is deeply hands-on while also influencing enterprise architecture, operational strategy, and best practices across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines expert-level AWS technical skills with a strong understanding of healthcare compliance and operational demands, working closely with engineering, security, and product teams to deliver mission-critical platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Engineering

  • Design, implement, and optimize AWS infrastructure to meet high availability, performance, and security requirements.

  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK.

  • Architect hybrid cloud and multi-region environments that integrate seamlessly with on-prem systems.

  • Lead proof-of-concepts for emerging AWS services and guide their adoption.

Operational Excellence

  • Develop and implement monitoring, alerting, and logging strategies (CloudWatch, CloudTrail, OpenSearch, Prometheus/Grafana).

  • Ensure robust disaster recovery, backup, and failover capabilities.

  • Implement performance tuning and cost optimization measures across AWS workloads.

Healthcare & Compliance

  • Design solutions that comply with HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and other relevant frameworks.

  • Apply security-by-design principles using AWS Identity & Access Management (IAM), VPC security, KMS encryption, and private networking.

  • Partner with compliance teams to support audits and certifications.

Technical Leadership (Non-Manager)

  • Serve as the go-to AWS technical expert for complex engineering initiatives.

  • Mentor engineers in cloud architecture, automation, and DevOps practices.

  • Influence enterprise AWS strategy and standards without direct people management responsibilities.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, Solventum requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 7 years in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, or platform engineering.

  • 5 years AWS skills across core services: EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, CloudFront, API Gateway, CloudWatch, IAM.

  • Proven experience designing and deploying mission-critical workloads in regulated industries; healthcare experience preferred.

  • 5 years of experience automation experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.

  • 5 years with CI/CD, pipelines including Observability and DevOps tooling.

In addition to the above requirements, the following are also required:

  • Container orchestration expertise (EKS, ECS, Kubernetes).

  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7).

  • Experience with serverless architectures and event-driven design.

  • Familiarity with AWS cost governance tools and optimization techniques.

Work location: Remote US

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic

As a result, new employees hired for this position will be required to travel to a designated company location for on-site onboarding during their initial days of employment. Travel arrangements and related expenses will be coordinated and paid for by the company in accordance with its travel policy. Applies to new hires with a start date of October 1st 2025 or later.Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $183,301 - $224,034, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
