Principal Architect III- Private Cloud Architecture

JOB SCOPE
The Principal Architect III for On Prem Cloud is responsible for establishing and leading our On Prem Cloud strategy and driving the design, implementation, and optimization of our platforms and environments. As a Principal Architect you will help the Charter Technology Operations organization enable their future-state business capabilities that drive the organization's targeted business outcomes through the choice of programs, projects and initiatives. You will be a technical leader responsible for defining our On Prem Cloud vision, ensuring scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness of our environments. You will collaborate closely with engineering, software development, product, and operations teams to deliver innovative and robust cloud-based platforms.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Actively and consistently supports all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
• Provide technical direction and solutions to architectural, development, and operational teams on assigned projects to small teams.
• Lead architect teams to formulate and review new software/hardware platforms.
• Review the most complex designs and problems to solution within internal/external systems in order to complete project initiatives for the business.
• Design and provide support for the organization's application systems, components and/or infrastructure for an assigned technology domain.
• Oversee creation of architectural framework for application systems and/or information system development, maintenance, and enhancement efforts.
• Work closely with developers and engineers to develop road maps for applications, align development plans, and to ensure effective integration among application systems, information systems and infrastructure.
• Formulate criteria, technologies, and use cases for and execute proofs-of-concept for new approaches and platforms.
• Understand the interfaces and interoperability between systems, data, applications, and services within the environment, and evaluate the impact of changes, additions or decommissions.
• Analyze systems and define metrics for usability testing to ensure performance and reliability, enhance scalability, and meet security requirements.
• Define develop, and influence technology strategy, technology standards, roadmaps, and practices.
• Determine enterprise level solutions to problems that relate to compatibility, systems, disparate, and multiple platform integration.
• Lead and influence collaborations with business and technical teams to review conflicts/gaps between functional goals and existing capabilities across the organization.
• Manage and participate in enterprise and solution prioritization planning with executive management.
• Provide technical assistance to development and operations project teams on new system projects and existing systems, and provide formal skills development training and informal mentoring to other employees.
• Develop and document best practices for code design, development, and review, API design and contracts, version control, test automation and build automation.
• Collaborate with development managers and project teams to review project code trees for compliance with best practices.
• Provide insight to project cost during annual budgeting process.

• Expert knowledge of cloud architecture principles, patterns and best practices
• Extensive experience with On Prem Cloud and Public Cloud Platforms such as AWS, GPC, or Azure
• Expert knowledge and extensive experience with VPC, networking, security, compute, and storage concepts
• Expert knowledge and extensive experience with virtualization platforms such as OpenStack, KVM, and/or Nutanix
• Expert knowledge and extensive experience with containers utilizing Kubernetes, Docker, and/or Container.io
• Proven analytical skills to solve complex technology and business problems
• Proven ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Effective written, verbal and presentation skills to all levels in the organization, including executive leadership, and external forums. May need to use influential ability to lead teams to desired business outcomes

Required Education

• BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years

• Cumulative experience with system installation, configuration, operations, software development, and/or database development - 10+
• Experience engineering and architecting with understanding of documentation requirements - 10+
• Engineering and architecting On Prem Cloud solutions with virtualization and containerized platforms - 10+
• Engineering and architecting compute, storage, and platform as a service solutions - 10+
• Engineering and architecting hybrid and multi-cloud applications and platforms - 10+
• Engineering experience with cloud security frameworks and standards - 10+

• Cloud Strategy & Vision:

Develop and maintain the overall on prem cloud architecture strategy, roadmap, and standards.
Evaluate and recommend cloud technologies, platforms, and services to meet business needs. Stay abreast of emerging cloud trends and technologies, and drive innovation within the organization.

• Architecture & Design:

Design and implement scalable, resilient, and secure cloud architectures for on prem cloud.
Design and implement cloud mobility architecture to ensure that on prem workloads can be dynamically moved to a public cloud provide such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Design and document requirements for automated provisioning to create an abstraction layer with an API presented to the service catalog
Define and enforce cloud architecture best practices, patterns, and standards.
Lead the design and implementation of complex cloud infrastructure solutions, including VPC, security, storage, and compute. Create and maintain detailed architectural diagrams, documentation, and specifications.

• Implementation & Optimization:

Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams during cloud implementation projects.
Optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, cost, and security.
Implement and manage infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions for automated deployment processes creating an abstraction layer presenting an API to the service catalog. Automate cloud provisioning, deployment, and management processes.

• Security & Compliance:

Design and implement security controls and best practices for cloud environments.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS). Conduct security assessments and vulnerability analyses of cloud infrastructure.

• Collaboration & Communication:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and operations, to deliver cloud-based solutions.
Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Mentor and guide junior architects and engineers.
Participate in incident response and troubleshooting related to cloud infrastructure.

• Cost Management:

Develop and implement cloud cost optimization strategies.
Develop and document requirements for application right sizing to meet define
cost optimization objectives to include investigation and implementation tools
to complete right sizing tasks
Monitor and analyze cloud spending to identify cost savings opportunities.
Implement and manage cloud cost management tools

The base pay for this position generally is between
$138,800.00 and $246,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
