Summary:

The Data Science Pred Modeler will be responsible for bringing advanced analytics and predictive (Pred) modeling best practices in the industry to Freedom Mortgage.

Essential Job Functions may include:

  • Design and develop machine learning models and data mining analysis in multiple fields such as Customer Behavior Analysis/Prediction, Marketing, Operational Optimization, Risk Management, Customer Attrition Prediction, Loan Fallout Prediction, etc.

  • Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources.

  • Conduct analytics and modeling with structured and unstructured data.

  • Visualize complex data and findings in the format of business tables, graphs, and dashboards.

  • Interpret and explain analytical results to other team members.

  • Work independently and make business decisions to effectively accomplish assigned tasks.

  • Recommend realistic solutions using sound judgment and business knowledge.

  • Evaluate external analytical models.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, and engineering or a relevant science or engineering field and 3 years of experience or, Master’s degree and 2 years of experience.

  • Extensive knowledge and work experience in predictive modeling, classification, clustering, machine learning, data mining, and optimization techniques in the fields of finance, mortgage, banking, or relevant industries.

  • Knowledge and experience in NLP, text mining, and social media analysis.

  • Expert knowledge and experience in R, Python, SAS, and/or other analytical tools.

  • Good working knowledge of SQL; Experience in PL/SQL and stored procedures.

  • Familiarity with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL.

  • Knowledge and experience in MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive/Pig, and NoSQL.

  • Experience in visualization tools like Tableau, QlikView, or Spotfire.

  • Ability to communicate data interpretation and other technical issues to the business community.

  • Experience in business analysis and ability to write technical documentation.

  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner.

  • Ability to deliver results under and meet aggressive timelines.

  • Experience in IBM Watson Bluemix & Analytics is a plus.

  • Experience in Java development is a plus.

  • Knowledge and experience in the mortgage industry is a plus.

  • Technique Skills required: R, Python, SAS, SAS EM, KnowledgeSeeker - Angoss /or other analytical tools, Oracle, SQL Server, PL/SQL.

Licensing/Certification/Registration:

This position does not require professional licensing, certification or registration.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Personal/Organizational Contacts:

Some contact with others; including general public. Purpose of contacts is to provide explanation or interpretation of information. May handle confidential information and some complex matters.

Customer Service Relationships:

Requires normal courteous interaction and basic interpersonal skills and tact to communicate with others. Forwards non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate individual and/or department.

Work Complexity:

Tasks and responsibilities require integration of diverse functional areas and involve variables that are more abstract. Work is substantially complex and varied, and requires the interpretation of technical and detailed guidelines, policies and procedures in combination.

Independent Judgement/Problem Solving:

Performs duties within scope of general Company policies, procedures and objectives. Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices. Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures and practices. Refers exceptions to policy and procedures to the supervisor.
