Our healthcare system is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S. Every year, over 50 million Americans suffer adverse financial consequences as a result of seeking care, from lower credit scores to garnished wages. The challenge is only getting worse, as high deductible health plans are the fastest growing plan design in the U.S.
Cedar’s mission is to leverage data science, smart product design and personalization to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. Today, healthcare providers still engage with its consumers in a “one-size-fits-all” approach; and Cedar is excited to leverage consumer best practices to deliver a superior experience.
The Role
Our Platform Testing team builds the tooling, frameworks, and standards that help every Cedar engineering team test more effectively. We’re hiring an engineer with deep testing expertise to make our large test suite faster and more reliable, shape how we test services as our architecture evolves, and identify where our biggest risks are. You’ll write production-quality code, own well-defined problems independently, and partner with senior engineers in a broader direction. Because Cedar builds healthcare technology, better testing directly improves the experience for patients, providers, and customers. This role is remote across the United States.
What you will do:
- Build tooling and metrics that make test quality visible, including reliability, flakiness, and coupling
- Establish code-coverage measurement and help teams close gaps in the highest-risk areas
- Improve service-to-service testing as our architecture becomes more distributed
- Integrate testing capabilities into CI/CD and developer workflows with Platform engineers
- Make great testing easier through better frameworks, documentation, and standards
- Help connect tests to product behavior and feature specifications
- Own projects end to end, from investigation to adoption, and measure their impact on quality
What We Look For
- 4–7 years in software engineering, or as an SDET with substantial software development responsibilities
- Proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript
- Deep knowledge of testing strategies from unit through end-to-end, and hands-on use of frameworks such as pytest, Jest, Vitest, Cypress, or Playwright
- You’ve implemented CI/CD pipelines, including collecting and reporting on test results
- You’ve measured test suites through metrics such as coverage, reliability, execution time, or flakiness
- Ability to work cross-functionally to improve processes, and to bring in the right people when a problem needs broader input
- Strong written and verbal communication, including turning testing strategy into clear standards and documentation
- Comfort working independently once a problem is defined, and genuine curiosity about how software fails
Nice to Have
- Service-to-service or contract testing (e.g., Pact, Testcontainers), especially during an architecture migration
- You’ve built a test framework from scratch
- Time on a platform, developer productivity, or internal tooling team, ideally within a product engineering organization
- You’ve built AI-assisted testing tools or tested LLM-powered applications
- Familiarity with Go or Kotlin, or eagerness to pick up new languages
Compensation Range and Benefits
- Salary Range*: $170,000-$215,000
- This role is equity eligible
- This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package
*Subject to location, experience, and education
