Job Description:

At Regions, the Platform Engineer oversees Enterprise shared systems and services focused on platform operations and maintenance activities. This position manages and monitors system applications, ensures systems run smoothly, and creates reports and other documentation outlining findings/solutions. This position sits within Regions' Technology department.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Designs and deploys new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operation systems
  • Oversees development and installation of new hardware and software
  • Assists development teams to onboard new applications on enterprise platforms (CI/CD, API Gateway, etc.)
  • Develops utilities/script/capabilities/APIs for day-to-day operation, maintenance and new environment setup activities
  • Identifies and resolves business systems issues
  • Develops and implements strategies to improve systems
  • Typically has full ownership of a process
  • May act as a procedural expert
  • May lead the work of junior level associates

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
  • Five (5) years of related experience

​​Additional Job Description:

  • Proficiency in programming languages: A strong foundation in languages commonly used for API development like Java, Python, JavaScript (Node.js), .Net (C#) and Go is essential for writing, understanding, and reviewing API code.
  • API specifications and documentation: Expertise in crafting and interpreting API specifications using tools like OpenAPI (Swagger) and RAML is crucial for clear communication and standardization.
  • API management and gateways: Familiarity with API management platforms and gateways (e.g., Apigee, AWS API Gateway, Mulesoft) for tasks like access control, rate limiting, and analytics is necessary for effective API governance and security.
  • Microservices architecture: Understanding how to design and manage APIs in a microservices environment, including concepts like fault tolerance and scalability, is vital.
  • Understanding of API design principles and architectural styles: This includes knowledge of RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and event-driven architectures like those using Webhooks, along with best practices for endpoints, data serialization (e.g., JSON, XML), authentication, and versioning.
  • API security best practices: Deep knowledge of security measures like OAuth, JWT, and OpenID Connect for authentication and authorization, along with the OWASP API Security Top 10 vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies, is vital.
  • Version control and lifecycle management: Understanding of version control systems like Git and processes for managing API evolution, including deprecation strategies, is crucial for maintaining backward compatibility and minimizing disruptions.
  • Cloud-native technologies: Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes) is increasingly important as APIs move to cloud environments.
  • Data modeling and database management: Understanding how to design efficient data structures and manage databases (SQL and NoSQL) is essential for effective API design and implementation.
  • Experience with Kubernetes / OpenShift cluster admin
  • Experienced with production support and day to day troubleshooting using AnyPoint Monitoring, splunk, Dynatrace etc..

This position may be filled at a higher level depending on the candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.

This position is intended to be onsite, now or in the near future. Associates will have regular work hours, including full days in the office three or more days a week.  The manager will set the work schedule for this position, including in-office expectations.  Regions will not provide relocation assistance for this position, and relocation would be at your expense.  This position must be within a reasonable driving distance to Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA or Charlotte, NC.  Exceptions to the geographic location requirement may be made for current Regions associates who work remotely.

Compensation Details

Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.

The target information listed below is based on the Metropolitan Statistical Area Market Range for where the position is located and level of the position.
