Payroll Tax Reconciliation Lead

Job Summary:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and strategic Team Lead for our Tax Data Validation and Reconciliation team. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of tax-related processes across multiple jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical capabilities, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement and team development.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide backup support for team members during their absence by managing their daily validation tasks, reconciliation cases, and quarterly and annual balancing.
• Assist team members with Priority 1 Out-of-Balance (OOB) issues.
• Support the team in researching OOB and reconciliation cases, particularly for mid-quarter onboarding clients.
• Assist in gathering employee details for reconciliation cases involving SLE and Mid-quarter clients.
• Contribute to the development and management of project plans for quarter-end and year-end tax balancing.
• Support the delivery of accurate and timely quarterly and annual reconciliation reports.
• Conduct regular team check-ins, provide coaching, and support team members’ professional development.
• Help in maintaining and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring the team is trained in system enhancements and regulatory changes.
• Monitor reconciliation cases and help the team release impounds.
• Collaborate with internal departments (Tax Consulting, Treasury, IT, Payments, etc.) to optimize tax processes.
• Communicate complex reconciliation findings clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Promote cross-training initiatives to enhance team flexibility and encourage knowledge sharing.
• Review validation work, help in performing audits, and advocate for best practices across the team.
• Escalate unresolved issues with recommended solutions to leadership.

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3+ years managing payroll or payroll tax operations (outsourcing experience preferred)
• Experience with ACH Credit, ACH Debit, and check payment methods
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Customer-focused approach

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
• CPP or FPC certification
• Experience with payroll and tax software

Supervisory Responsibility:

While this position does not have direct supervisory authority, it requires leadership in managing team performance, workloads, and development.
