Payroll Specialist

Mission: Groq is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Payroll Specialist to support our global payroll function. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Head of Global Payroll to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing across multiple entities and geographies. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong foundation in payroll who’s excited to grow in a fast-paced, high-tech environment.

Responsibilities & opportunities in this role:

  • Support end-to-end semi-monthly and monthly hourly and salaried payroll processing across U.S. and international entities
  • Assist with validating payroll inputs (e.g., new hires, terminations, salary changes, equity exercises, bonuses, etc.)
  • Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations through monitoring employee nexus and completing state registrations and setup
  • Reconcile payroll data, including earnings, taxes, deductions, and benefits contributions
  • Partner with People Ops, Finance, and external vendors (e.g., ADP, global payroll providers) to maintain data accuracy and resolve payroll issues
  • Provide onboarding and support for new employees
  • Support audits, reporting, and documentation for internal and external compliance
  • Create and maintain robust process documentation for Finance and employees
  • Maintain confidentiality and data integrity at all times
  • Lead or support process improvement efforts and help scale accounting operations as the company grows

Ideal candidates have/are:

  • 2–3 years of experience in U.S. payroll, with exposure to global payroll processes a plus
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar systems required
  • Experience with international payroll systems a plus (e.g., Rouse, Remote)
  • Experience with annual employee tax reporting
  • Basic understanding of payroll tax laws and compliance requirements
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills (e.g., pivot tables, V/H/XLOOKUPs, reconciliations)
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working with sensitive data
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote and asynchronous environment

Bonus If You Have

  • Experience with equity compensation and multi-state payroll
  • Experience with expense reimbursement processes and platforms

Compensation: At Groq, a competitive base salary is part of our comprehensive compensation package, which includes equity and benefits. For this role, the base salary range is TBD, determined by your skills, qualifications, experience and internal benchmarks.

Location: Some roles may require being located near or on our primary sites, as indicated in the job description.
