We're looking for a Payroll and Benefits Manager to own compensation operations across a growing, multi-entity organization. You'll ensure every employee across two legal entities, all US states, and international offices including Vienna is paid accurately and on time, that benefits programs are competitive and well administered, and that sales commission payouts are processed correctly alongside payroll. You'll be the single point of accountability bringing payroll, benefits, and commissions under one coherent operation as we scale.
The right person is detail-oriented, comfortable with ambiguity, and knows how to build scalable processes in a fast-moving environment. You've done this before at a company that was growing quickly, and you know what it takes to keep operations running smoothly while also improving them.
About The RoleOwn end-to-end payroll across entities and jurisdictions: Process payroll accurately and on schedule across two legal entities and all US state jurisdictions. Manage payroll changes, off-cycle runs, multi-entity reconciliation, and year-end processes including W-2s and ACA reporting.
Own sales commission payouts: Enter, track, and process sales commission payments through payroll each cycle. Reconcile commission data against Sales Ops/Finance records, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate, timely payout alongside regular payroll runs.
Administer benefits programs: Manage day-to-day administration of health, dental, vision, 401(k), FSA/HSA, and other employee benefit programs. Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits questions.
Lead open enrollment: Plan and execute annual open enrollment, including vendor coordination, employee communications, and system configuration. Evaluate current offerings and bring recommendations to leadership.
Ensure multi-jurisdiction compliance: Stay current on federal and state payroll and benefits regulations across all jurisdictions and entities where we operate. Manage filings, audits, and reporting requirements, and flag new registration or compliance needs as we expand into new states or entities.
Bring international payroll under one umbrella: Serve as the internal owner of payroll and benefits visibility for our international employees (Vienna). Payroll is outsourced to local providers today. You'll manage those relationships, ensure consistency with US practices, maintain full visibility into international payroll runs, and build toward a more unified, centrally-tracked process as we grow.
Partner with Finance and People: Work closely with Finance on payroll reconciliation, headcount reporting, entity-level cost allocation, and budgeting. Support People on new hire onboarding, leave management, and offboarding across all entities.
Manage vendors and systems: Own relationships with our payroll provider, benefits brokers, and international payroll/EOR partners. Evaluate tools and processes continuously and drive improvements as the company scales into new entities, states, and countries.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of payroll and benefits administration experience, with at least 2 years in a standalone or lead role.
Experience processing multi-state payroll for a US-based company with 150+ employees; experience across multiple legal entities is a strong plus.
Deep knowledge of payroll regulations, tax compliance, and benefits law (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA, etc.) across multiple state jurisdictions.
Hands-on experience with payroll platforms such as Rippling, Gusto, ADP, or Paylocity.
Strong benefits administration experience, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and supplemental programs.
Experience processing or reconciling variable pay (commissions, bonuses, or similar) through a payroll system.
High attention to detail and a track record of running clean, accurate payroll processes across complexity (multiple entities, states, or pay types).
Comfortable working cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Sales Ops, and People teams.
Strong communicator who can explain complex benefits and pay information clearly to employees at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience at a high-growth startup or Series B/C company where you've had to build or significantly improve payroll and benefits infrastructure, including standing up new entities.
Experience coordinating international payroll, particularly in Europe/Austria, including work with EOR providers or local advisors.
Experience supporting or administering sales commission plans, including calculation logic, timing, and payout tracking.
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) certification.
Experience with HRIS systems and comfort with data. You can pull reports, spot anomalies, and reconcile numbers independently across entities and geographies.
