Job Description
The Paralegal Claims Specialist is a key member of the Law & Regulation organization, providing comprehensive paralegal support to claims coverage counsel within a designated practice area, under the direction of Managing Counsel. This role plays a critical part in supporting coverage analysis and claims‑related legal work by drafting and coordinating standard documentation, managing matter workflow, and ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance across case files.The Specialist conducts and synthesizes legal and regulatory research, assists with issue identification and monitoring, and serves as a central liaison between counsel, internal business partners, and other stakeholders. In addition, this role manages the intake and ongoing administration of legal matters within the matter management system, ensuring documentation is complete, organized, accurate, and readily available to support timely legal analysis and decision‑making.Key Responsibilities
- Conduct, summarize, and analyze basic legal and regulatory research, including gathering facts and researching applicable state‑level laws, regulations, and case law relevant to claims and coverage matters
- Assist counsel in identifying, tracking, and summarizing key legal and regulatory issues, proactively monitoring developments and providing timely and accurate updates as appropriate
- Review proposed and enacted legislation and assess applicability and potential impact on claims handling practices and coverage positions
- Gather, organize, review, and validate matter‑related documents—including pleadings, correspondence, regulatory materials, and reference documents—to support coverage analysis and legal strategy
- Manage intake of new matters by entering and maintaining accurate matter data, uploading documents, and ensuring files are complete, current, and properly categorized within the matter management system
- Review and explain various forms, coverage‑related documentation, and procedural requirements to internal business partners and in‑house clients with clarity and precision
- Support project management efforts by coordinating with Law & Regulation, business clients, and board‑level stakeholders, ensuring collaboration, responsiveness, and adherence to timelines
- Execute, file, track, and retain legal and regulatory documents in accordance with internal guidelines, record‑retention policies, and applicable compliance requirements, with a strong attention to detail
- A paralegal certification (e.g., a two‑year certificate from an ABA‑approved program) is required, or an equivalent combination of education and five years of relevant paralegal experience.
- Experience supporting attorneys in insurance claims, coverage analysis, litigation, or regulatory matters, with a solid understanding of claims‑related legal processes
- Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and summarize state insurance regulations, statutes, and case law, while maintaining a high degree of accuracy in written work and legal summaries
- Proven ability to manage matters in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines without sacrificing accuracy or attention to detail
- Hands‑on experience using a legal or claims matter management system, ensuring data integrity, document accuracy, and consistent file organization
- Strong collaboration skills and experience partnering with cross‑functional teams (legal, claims, compliance, and business units) in a deadline‑driven environment requiring precision and sound judgment

Compensation offered for this role is 28.03 - 42.99 per hour and is based on experience and qualifications.The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
