The Combat Vehicles line of business within the Platforms & Services (P&S) Sector of BAE Systems is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to support the assembly of armored military vehicles. We are looking for an Engineering student to join our Process Engineering Team as an entry level intern. The Operations Support Intern will assist in improving production processes, supporting day-to-day manufacturing operations, and contributing to engineering-driven initiatives. This role provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, focusing on process optimization, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.

As an Operations Support Intern you will:
- Support manufacturing engineers in analyzing production processes and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as throughput, scrap, and downtime
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S)
- Help develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation
- Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot operational issues
- Assist in implementing process changes, tooling updates, and workflow improvements
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for quality and production issues
- Contribute to safety initiatives and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
- Aid in project management tasks including timelines, tracking progress, and reporting results
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with data analysis tools is a plus
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is preferred
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a team-oriented environment
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems
- Basic knowledge of statistical analysis and process control
- Hands-on or lab/shop experience is a plus
- Gain real-world experience in manufacturing engineering and operations
- Develop skills in process improvement and data-driven decision-making
- Understand cross-functional collaboration within a production environment
- Build a foundation for a career in manufacturing, operations, or engineering
- Familiarity with the following software and tools is a plus:
