What this job involves – The site Facilities Operating Engineer maintains and operates all equipment to provide a large commercial building and dedicated white space all site utilities needed for operation of their facility.

What is your day to day?  

  • Performance of ongoing preventive and repair response work orders on facility mechanical, electrical, and other installed systems, equipment, and other components.
  • Maintain, operate, and repair all HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical distribution equipment, plumbing systems, building interior/exterior repair, and related grounds, and production equipment as it pertains to assigned buildings.
  • Working in and around raised floor environments and white space dedicated to Data Center and Labs.
  • Study and become familiar with the various items of equipment, and the methods required to use them properly, that are required in everyday activities. This to include building automation systems, fire / life safety systems, and any other building related equipment.
  • Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts, reporting on as found conditions impacting satisfactory client occupancy and operations.
  • Complete Hazard Assessments as necessary
  • Comply with all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping and safety of work areas. Recognize danger and safety hazards and propose methods to eliminate them.
  • Update work order status in real time
  • Utilize CMMS systems such as Corrigo for all work performed.
  • Refer Customer and Manager in a timely manner for escalating problems or issues.
  • Attend work and safety meetings as required.
  • Opportunity for after hours and weekend work (overtime).
  • Maintain logs, collect readings, and perform rounds on equipment.
  • Complies with company policies regarding Safety (training, lockout/tagout, and all associated permits).
  • Maintains tools and orders supplies as required for installation and repairs.
  • Keeps logs, documents equipment repairs, closes work orders, tracks time accurately in reports and provides timely and constant communication with the Operations Manager and Chief Engineer.
  • Complies with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintains a clean and safe workspace.

Work Schedule: 1st Shift set schedule.

Desired experience and technical skills  

Required

  • High school diploma or state equivalent required.
  • Experience working in Data Centers/ Raised Floor Environment
  • Universal EPA / CFC recovery certification (or within 90 days of employment)
  • Minimum of four (4) years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineering with a strong background in the technical aspects of packaged HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and White Space operations. 
  • Team player, hard worker, good interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports.
  • Strong Customer Service skills and Interpersonal skills
  • Frequently climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and working/extending overhead.
  • Climbing a ladder up to 30 feet.
  • Working from heights.
  • Must be available for Call-in work and perform other duties as required.

Preferred

  • Familiar with computer equipment and programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and local codes.
  • Prior knowledge of working within a Data Center environment is a plus.
  • Two years of trades school or documented apprenticeship in electrical systems, refrigeration, and HVAC, plumbing or other craft skills, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel
