THE ROLE:
Xylem is seeking Network Metrics & Observability Intern candidates to join our Global Network Services team. In this role, you will help strengthen visibility into Xylem’s global network by developing dashboards, analyzing performance metrics, and supporting data-driven decision-making. This internship is ideal for students interested in the intersection of data analytics, cloud monitoring tools, and infrastructure operations.
Xylem Summer Internships typically last 10–12 weeks and provide hands-on, professional experience that makes a lasting contribution to Xylem. The program is designed to build a pipeline of talented undergraduate students interested in careers within the water innovation technology industry. Interns are a primary talent pool for early-career full-time roles and rotational programs.
The hourly rate for an intern depends on several factors including major, year in school, and geographic location. The average hourly rate ranges from $21.00–$27.00/hour.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and enhance Grafana dashboards to visualize site health, latency, uptime, circuit performance, and SLA compliance
• Support Cisco ThousandEyes monitoring through test configuration, validation, and analysis of synthetic and endpoint data
• Build and maintain Power BI reports for IT leadership to track network performance and operational trends
• Assist with data validation, metric definitions, tagging accuracy, and integration across observability tools
• Partner with Network Engineering, Cloud Services, and Operations teams to ensure accurate and reliable reporting
• Document dashboards, data queries, and operational processes to support long-term scalability
• Contribute ideas to improve data quality, usability, automation, and insight generation within the observability ecosystem
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Engineering, or related field
• Foundational understanding of networking concepts (DNS, routing, latency, error rates)
• Coursework or exposure to visualization tools such as Grafana, Power BI, or Tableau
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Familiarity with APIs, SQL, PromQL, Python, or similar technologies (through coursework or projects)
DAY IN THE LIFE:
A typical day as a Network Metrics & Observability Intern may include:
• Designing or refining Grafana dashboards
• Validating ThousandEyes tests or reviewing monitoring outputs
• Building new Power BI pages for leadership reporting
• Collaborating with network engineers to align metrics with operational needs
• Documenting dashboards, definitions, or queries for long-term maintainability
• Analyzing trends in latency, application performance, uptime, or other KPIs
• Identifying opportunities to automate or improve reporting workflows
