As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, integrating, testing, and supporting the mechanical systems that power Okuma's manufacturing solutions. Working closely with internal teams, customers, distributors, and technology partners, you will contribute to the development of high-quality, reliable automation and machine tool solutions that support the future of manufacturing.

This position is ideal for an engineering professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and translating concepts into practical, well-documented mechanical designs.

How You'll Make an ImpactMechanical Design & Engineering
  • Develop concept and detailed mechanical designs for manufacturing and automation solutions.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, including functional specifications, 2D and 3D CAD models, assembly drawings, installation instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Integrate partner-supplied peripheral equipment into Okuma manufacturing solutions.
  • Evaluate and specify mechanical components and systems to meet performance, quality, and cost objectives.
Project Execution & Technical Support
  • Process Requests for Engineering Quotations (RFEQs) and support project planning activities.
  • Create and maintain project schedules to ensure timely project execution.
  • Provide technical support to sales, service, operations, distributors, partners, and customers as needed.
  • Collaborate across departments to support successful implementation of customer solutions.
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on design efficiency, quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and support product lifecycle management activities.
  • Investigate customer concerns and perform root cause analysis to identify and implement corrective actions.
  • Support standardization initiatives through the use of common components and best practices.
Cost Management & Sourcing
  • Identify opportunities for cost control and cost reduction while maintaining product quality and performance.
  • Support U.S.-based sourcing efforts for components and systems.
  • Assist with evaluating suppliers, components, and design alternatives to meet business objectives.
Testing & Troubleshooting
  • Support testing, validation, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electromechanical systems.
  • Verify design performance and functionality through analysis, testing, and hands-on problem solving.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable safety, quality, and industry standards.
Preferred Qualifications & SkillsEducation
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required; or equivalent combination of education and 8-10 years of machine tool installation, maintenance, and/or repair experience.
Experience
  • Three (3) to seven (7) years of mechanical design experience, preferably within machine tools, automation, or industrial equipment.
  • Experience with CNC machine tools preferred; experience with Okuma products is a plus.
  • Experience using 3D solid modeling and CAD software for mechanical design and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to progress from problem definition to tested, documented engineering solutions.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong mechanical design and engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, machine tool applications, and automation systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electromechanical systems.
  • Understanding of industry standards and regulations, including ISO, OSHA, and ANSI requirements.
  • Strong analytical, root cause analysis, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.

Travel Requirement: Approximately 20% travel to support customers, distributors, partners, and project activities.

Qualifications
  • BS Mechanical Engineering or 8-10 years of machine tool installation, maintenance and/or repair.
  • 3-7 years of mechanical design experience (prior machine tool design experience preferred)
  • Prior experience with CNC machine tools desired (experience with Okuma machines preferred)
  • Prior design experience using solid modeling software (CAD)
  • Skilled at progressing from problem statement to well-documented and tested designs
  • Understanding and applications of national and international standards such as ISO, OSHA, ANSI standards
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
  • 10% travel required to work with Customers, Distributors, and Partners
