The Product Development organization is responsible for the technology enablement and development of these technologies for our customers along with the tools used by our teams to support them. We are seeking an accomplished and driven Manager of Video Backend Development to lead and guide a dynamic engineering team. In this managerial role, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, enhancement, and maintenance of back end software for video services, with an emphasis on technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, SQL, GCP & HLS. Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, fostering an environment of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration
- Manage team dynamics, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across engineering, product, and business teams
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of backend software for delivery of video, focusing on Java, Spring Boot, SQL, GCP & HLS technologies
- Oversee the integration of backend software with various frontend applications and devices, ensuring seamless operation and performance of video and metadata delivered to these devices
- Collaborate with QA teams to ensure a comprehensive testing strategy that minimizes production defects and maintains product quality
- Lead the technical direction for backend software projects, identifying innovative solutions and applying industry best practices
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Java, Spring Boot, SQL, GCP & HLS, and related technologies, guiding team members and driving technical excellence
- Proactively assess new technologies, tools, and methodologies, ensuring the team remains at the forefront of backend video development
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define product requirements and align technical efforts with business priorities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree is preferred
- 10+ years of experience in backend software development, including at least 4 years in a leadership role
- Relevant certifications in video & backend development are advantageous
- Proven leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing and motivating engineering teams
