Job Overview:

A Lexia Learning Manager of Database Engineering is a hybrid role combining hands-on technical leadership with project management and team coordination responsibilities. This role serves as the lead database administrator, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s database infrastructure while ensuring database projects are delivered successfully. The Manager will play a key role in both day-to-day database operations and strategic initiatives, collaborating closely with technical and business stakeholders to align database systems to organizational goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead database administrator, taking ownership for managing the entire SQL Server database infrastructure for all business unit environments through the entire administration lifecycle.
  • Manage, mentor, and drive database administrators in the fulfillment of business goals.
  • Translate high-level requirements and drive database related projects by defining targets, creating detailed and actionable implementation plans, and ensuring clarity and alignment for seamless execution by self and other team members within expected timelines.
  • Oversee the administration and maintenance of all SQL Server databases, including installations, configuration changes, backups, and disaster recovery planning and operational monitoring and alerting.
  • Collaborate closely with other data team members to optimize SQL Server database performance by identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, implementing best practices for query optimization and indexing as well as active query store and other metrics analysis and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team leads, including Applications and Infrastructure teams as well as business stakeholders to ensure that the database platforms meet the organization’s requirements and can support its goals.
  • Implement and maintain robust monitoring and alerting solutions to provide real time insight into database systems health.
  • Proactively analyze database usage and growth trends, and develop and implement capacity planning strategies to ensure that the database environment can support current and future business needs.
  • Drive the investigation and resolution of database-related issues and incidents, working closely with the DBA team and other IT teams to minimize downtime and ensure the continuity of business operations using native monitoring and third-party tools such as Quest Spotlight, Zabbix, Vmware Vcenter.
  • Ensure database operations plans, policies, procedures, and transition/migration plans are consistent with departmental goals as well as alignment to overall company goals and objectives.

Job Requirements:

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible and hands-on experience with various versions of MS SQL Server including 2017 and 2022 in the design, implementation, and support of SQL Server database systems through out the full lifecycle.
  • 3+ years of experience as hands on technical manager or other technical leadership role like team lead with or without formal direct report responsibility; this includes experience providing technical direction, thought leadership, coaching and mentoring to team members
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server architecture and components such as SSIS, SSRS
  • Exceptional technical expertise with SQL Server database administration, HADR architecture including Always On Availability Groups, synchronous and asynchronous database mirroring and transactional replication.
  • Experience managing implementing enterprise-scale, operationally critical OLTP databases.
  • Solid understanding of database administration standards, security principles and best practices and design patterns.
  • Knowledge of third party database monitoring solutions including Quest Spotlight
  • Exposure to and usage of the following is a plus: AWS RDS/EC2, Redgate Tools.
  • Ability to be part of 24/7 on-call rotation for incident response.
  • SQL Server certification(s) preferred.
