Position Overview

We are looking for a Manager of Data Engineering to lead the strategy, design, and execution of Abacus Group’s data platform. You will be responsible for owning the end-to-end data product lifecycle, including defining data structures, designing the data warehouse, managing data ingestion pipelines, and enabling internal teams with accurate, accessible reporting tools. You will collaborate cross-functionally with business stakeholders, data engineers, analysts, and outsourced development teams to gather requirements, prioritize initiatives, write clear specifications, and drive successful delivery of data products that meet business goals.

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Own and manage the overall architecture and roadmap for data structures, data warehouse design, and data reporting systems.
  • Act as the primary liaison between business units and the data development team to capture, clarify, and prioritize data needs.
  • Define and document detailed product requirements, data specifications, and user stories for ingestion pipelines and reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with engineering and outsourced development teams to ensure successful implementation of data solutions on time and within scope.
  • Manage the workoad and work output of an offshore data engineering team.
  • Lead the data product lifecycle from ideation to delivery, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and roadmap management.
  • Oversee the integration of diverse data sets into the data warehouse to support analytics, business intelligence, and reporting needs.
  • Champion data governance, quality, and security best practices across the organization.
  • Monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure alignment between cross-functional contributors and business objectives.

Skills: 

  • Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL pipelines, and modern data warehousing concepts (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc.).
  • Proven ability to gather and translate business requirements into technical deliverables.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Experience with data visualization/reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and product management tools such as Azure DevOps or similar.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with strong project management and prioritization skills.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of product ownership experience with a focus on data platforms, data warehousing, or analytics products.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field; MBA or relevant certification is a plus.
  • Experience working closely with development teams, including offshore/outsourced partners.
  • Experience managing an offshore team.
  • Exposure to regulatory and compliance considerations in data management.
  • Background in the financial services or technology sector preferred.
  • Experience working in a B2B SaaS environment preferred.
  • Must be able to work Eastern time zone hours
