This role leads initiatives in infrastructure capacity forecasting, failover modeling, and risk mitigation to ensure the reliable and efficient utilization of critical facility resources.
Acting as a key strategic partner to the Sales organization, this position ensures that all colocation opportunities are assessed with speed, accuracy, and a balanced view of customer needs, revenue potential, and operational resilience. The Manager of Capacity Engineering directs a team focused on delivering data-driven capacity planning, proactive risk assessments, and continuous infrastructure optimization—enabling the organization to scale efficiently and support high-performance, mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

Capacity Strategy & Optimization:

  • Lead the development and refinement of capacity models to track and forecast space, power, and cooling utilization across data center facilities.

  • Manage electrical panel schedules and ensure real-time accuracy in power distribution documentation.
  • Partner with DCIM Technology and Operations teams to advance automation, accuracy, and visibility in capacity reporting and monitoring systems.

Pre-Sales & Deployment Planning:

  • Collaborate closely with Sales to evaluate colocation opportunities with speed and precision, ensuring technical feasibility and infrastructure alignment.
  • Provide rapid and data-driven responses regarding power and space availability while maintaining compliance with operational thresholds and redundancy requirements.
  • Act as a strategic advisor during deal structuring, supporting Sales in optimizing configurations to maximize revenue while upholding infrastructure reliability and availability standards.

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Directly manage a geographically distributed team of Regional Capacity Engineers (West, Central, East), driving accountability and performance across all regions.
  • Work closely with the DCIM Technology Manager to ensure real-time analytics and data insights effectively support capacity planning and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the DCIM Operations Manager to uphold configuration accuracy, audit readiness, and consistent reporting standards across all data center sites.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven in-depth knowledge of data center power distribution, cooling systems, airflow dynamics (CFM), and rack density (WPSF).
  • Proven expertise in failover modeling, power chain redundancy, and electrical load balancing for mission-critical environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with panel schedule management, BMS/BAS systems, and capacity analytics tools.
  • Ability to translate complex infrastructure constraints into actionable business insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Extensive experience interpreting and working with electrical engineering documentation, including single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and facility power layouts.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio for space planning, rack layout design, and infrastructure visualization.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center infrastructure engineering, capacity planning, or critical facility operations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Walk or stand for 25% of the time.
  • Moderate or advanced keyboard usage.
  • Limited travel may be required.
