Background:

At Mozilla Foundation, we believe the Internet should be a force for good — one that’s open, safe, and inclusive by design. Our mission is to ensure that the Internet is a global public resource that is accessible to all. We mobilize communities, fund bold ideas, and push for tech that serves people. Through advocacy, education, and open-source innovation, we work to make good on the Internet’s promise.

Mozilla Foundation is hiring for our first Major Gift Officer, reporting to the Vice President, Development. As a key member of our growing Development Team, you will build and lead our major donor fundraising efforts.

Description:

Purpose of role

The Major Gift Officer will create and drive our major donor strategy, turning generosity into lasting impact. You will lead on identifying, cultivating, and stewarding relationships with high-net-worth individuals who believe in the promise of a better Internet. You will craft compelling proposals, build tailored engagement plans, and help donors see how their support can move the needle on issues that matter.

This role is about relationships, not transactions. The Major Gift Officer will know how to earn trust, translate complex ideas with clarity, and spark long-term commitment. You will work closely with our program and storytelling teams to connect donor priorities with our mission — and shape the future of giving at Mozilla Foundation. Strong existing networks within philanthropy are a bonus, as is global fundraising experience.

  • Create custom impact reports that show donors the real-world results of their support.
  • Partner with program teams to surface compelling stories and tangible outcomes.
  • Write donor-facing communications, including briefings, updates, and thank-yous that feel personal and purposeful.

Prospect research and pipeline development - 15% of time

  • Identify and qualify new prospects using research, networks, and curiosity.
  • Leverage events, partnerships, and Mozilla’s ecosystem to expand the reach of our donor pipeline.
  • Use data to guide strategy, sharpen outreach, and prioritize high-impact opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Mobilization team to build pathways from annual giving to major support.
