We are looking for a Mainframe Systems Analyst to support mission-critical health informatics platforms used by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role focuses on sustaining legacy systems operated on an IBM mainframe infrastructure with COBOL and batch job processing. You will play a vital role in maintaining the reliability of healthcare data systems, addressing issues quickly, and supporting ongoing modernization analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to tickets related to batch failures, report issues, and data anomalies
- Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues affecting data processing and end-user functionality
- Support and monitor COBOL-based batch job workflows
- Manage input/output of structured data files, ensuring successful file handling and data flow
- Ensure stable operation of IBM mainframe-based applications
- Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions or workarounds
- Maintain operational documentation, including procedures and workflows
- Support efforts to evaluate modernization pathways for legacy systems
- Collaborate with experienced team members to capture and retain institutional knowledge

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with IBM mainframe systems, COBOL, and batch job processing
- Strong troubleshooting skills in production data environments
- Familiarity with structured data file formats (e.g., SAAS)

- Strong communication skills for remote collaboration and documentation
