Job DescriptionHands-on technical lead responsible for repairs, new equipment installations, improvement projects, CNC programming, and troubleshooting across the Machining department. This role bridges Department Tech execution with Process/CI ownership—stabilizing performance, lifting OEE/yield, and shortening time-to-recover on machining assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Hands-on (~70%)-
- Troubleshoot & repair machining equipment (mechanical/electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic) using safe LOTO and root-cause methods.
- Program, edit, and optimize CNC programs/G-code; maintain revision control.
- Install & commission new/relocated machines and peripherals.
- Perform precision setups and capability checks; partner with QE/QC.
- Lead SMED/TPM tasks; coach department techs and operators.
Process & CI (~30%)-
- Own machining process standards and sustain through audits.
- Analyze losses and lead A3/8D corrective actions.
- Drive improvement projects (OEE, FPY, cycle time, tool cost).
- Maintain controlled documentation for programs and setups.
Success Metrics
- OEE improvement
- Scrap reduction
- MTTR reduction
- SMED targets
- Documentation compliance
- 5+ years in high-volume machining; strong troubleshooting.
- CNC programming/editing proficiency.
- Knowledge of GD&T, SPC, metrology.
- Experience with SMED/TPM/CI tools and problem-solving methods.
- Ability to read mechanical/electrical prints; basic PLC diagnostics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multi-spindle automatics experience (e.g., Euroturn).
- CAM exposure (Mastercam or similar).
- Prior capex installs/project leadership.
- Lean certifications or equivalent experience.
Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $49,000 USD - $74,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
