Northrop Grumman is seeking a Linux Engineer to join our Submarine Trainer Development Team supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. You will work with a dedicated team on the latest generation Intel based servers, Linux cluster configurations and virtualization architectures including Red Hat KVM. 

Job Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this position are to assist with design, develop, install, and integrate submarine training systems. Qualified applicants will perform the following tasks:

  • Assist - Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, system services, application software and system management tools for Linux systems, both natively and within virtual machines
  • Work with team to monitor and test applications, virtual machines, and containers to identify issues with installation and performance.
  • Troubleshoot Information Technology (IT) Systems to diagnose and suggest/implement potential solutions.
  • Support physical hardware installation of IT computing equipment and cabling at both local and remote sites.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other related field and 2 years experience or Masters degree. or a High school dipoma / equivalent with 6 years experience may be accepted in liue of degree
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux based systems.
  • Experience with bash scripting or similar experience.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Position requires working on site in Middletown RI [NO remote work]

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Security Clearance
  • Current IAT Level I Certifications
    • Network+
    • Security+
    • Linux+
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, preferably Red Hat KVM (e.g., Red Hat KVM, VMware, libvirt/virsh)
  • Experience with Cisco switch/router configuration development and deployment
  • Experience with System Build Automation Tools (Linux kickstart, Puppet, Windows Deployment Server (WDS))
  • Networking knowledge (OSI Network Layers, TCP/IP, DHCP)
  • Computer/Electronics Hardware knowledge
  • Intel server configurations
  • Configuration management experience with both centralized and distributed version control systems (e.g., SVN and Git)

Salary Range: $83,000.00 - $124,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
