The Team:
Upstart’s Growth team is in charge of expanding Upstart’s reach to the millions of Americans without access to affordable credit. We are energized by the prospect of breaking ground in our field and making a positive impact on people’s financial lives.
We’re looking for a mid-level Lifecycle Marketing Specialist with subject matter expertise and a strong execution track record—someone ready to take ownership and grow into the next stage of their career. As a Lifecycle Specialist at Upstart, you will use owned channels like Email and SMS to guide customers through the stages of discovery, activation, and ultimately borrowing funds for a loan. Day to day, you will plan and build out complex journeys that deepen a customer’s relationship with Upstart. You’ll also conduct analyses to share out results, draw insights, and develop an optimization roadmap. This role is heavily collaborative with partners in Product Marketing, Product, Engineering, Creative, and Analytics.
How you’ll make an impact
- Create detailed workback schedules to launch new customer journeys, aligning timelines across multiple stakeholders
- Develop strategic documentation that communicates lifecycle goals, messaging frameworks, and roadmaps
- Share business requirements with technical partners, enabling them to define, scope, and build technical needs
- Write creative briefs to empower our internal Creative team to build effective Lifecycle assets
- Build complex customer journeys including email templates, audience logic, and segmentation splits using Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Iterable
- Analyze customer lifecycle performance against revenue, conversion, and engagement goals using BI tools (we use Looker and Mode)
Minimum Qualifications

- 2 years+ of building emails and journeys in Iterable or Braze
- 4 years+ of creating Lifecycle marketing strategies based on customer events and triggers
- Proven track record of writing marketing and/or business briefs
- A passion and aptitude for project management and collaboration with stakeholders– this role is heavy on it
- Strong analytical ability– this role requires a deep understanding of statistical principles. You must be able to pull data using a Business Intelligence Tool (we use Looker and Mode) and draw insights from data sets independently
Preferred Qualifications
- You’re an executor. You get a thrill from getting things done efficiently and with quality
- You’re highly organized—comfortable working within existing processes, but always looking for ways to improve them
- You’re a natural collaborator who enjoys working cross-functionally to find solutions
- Proficiency in SQL is a plus and will give you an edge
- Ability to communicate effectively with creative and technical partners
- Past experience or a personal interest in financial lending is nice to have, but not required
