The Next Insurance Legal Department is seeking an experienced insurance regulatory attorney, to join our highly collaborative team.  This is a key position reporting to the Associate General Counsel that will involve working closely with the business across various functions of the organization.


The Legal Counsel will provide legal advice on multiple subject matter issues to internal partners within Next’s various business units and support day-to-day initiatives as well as long-term strategies. Under the guidance of the Associate General Counsel, you will also draft, review, revise, and negotiate various partnership and agency agreements.   


What You’ll Do:  

  • Conduct multi-state and issue-specific legal research on a wide variety of topics as needed.
  • Support New Law & Regulation monitoring process by providing legal guidance to analysts and business partners.
  • Provide general contract, regulatory, and legal support to Next’s business stakeholders, which may include, product, filings, partnership & distribution, underwriting, marketing, actuarial, and finance functions. 
  • Provide product legal support including advising rules, rates, insurance sales disclosures, forms, and other notices that must adhere to various state statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Support and / or manage certain interactions with regulatory bodies including market conduct exams, filing objection responses, and DOI complaints responses.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various NDAs, partnership and agency agreements in collaboration with key internal business stakeholders.
  • Provide legal support on various business, legal, regulatory, or compliance initiatives as they may arise.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of key contract templates.
  • Drive process improvement within Legal and across the organization.

What We Need: 

  • JD and admission to a state bar association in the United States in good standing.
  • 3+ years of legal and regulatory experience in insurance preferred, ideally at a law firm, insurance company, or insurance intermediary (broker/agent). 
  • P&C Insurance experience preferred, but will consider candidates with experience in other insurance lines of business. 
  • Working knowledge of the insurance regulatory environment.
  • Experience drafting insurance agent agreements a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and oral and written communications skills, with the ability to work as a team player and effectively communicate effectively across a number of diverse internal groups.
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize a heavy workflow, and coordinate activities with colleagues to efficiently deliver results.
  • Ability to operate with limited supervision on moderately complex projects.

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the location(s) listed. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including, without limitation, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. NEXT employees are eligible for our benefits package, consisting of our partially subsidized medical plan, fully subsidized vision/dental options, life insurance, disability insurance, 401(k), flexible paid time off, parental leave and more.

US annual base salary range for this full-time position:
$124,000$167,000 USD

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, without limitation, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. NEXT employees are eligible for our benefits package, consisting of our partially subsidized medical plan, fully subsidized vision/dental options, life insurance, disability insurance, 401(k), flexible paid time off, parental leave and more.

US annual base salary range for this full-time position:
$110,000$148,000 USD
