Description

Working within a pod, Lead Digital Strategists provide advanced support to client email programs, as well as some intermediate leadership. This job is an opportunity to manage multiple client email programs, as well as to develop more advanced skills in the areas of email copywriting and creative development, production, and reporting, and client management. Lead Digital Strategists typically report to Managing Digital Strategists.

This role is part of the bargaining unit.


Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees the email content creation process
    • Typically delegates the writing process to more junior podmates; subsequently reviews their work, providing guidance and feedback as needed
    • When needed, writes content for emails and landing pages (with little to no supervision)
    • Holds podmates accountable to make sure email content aligns with client voices and comports with best practices
    • Frequently or always uses effective theories of change in their creative
      • Holds teammates accountable to make sure they are also using effective theories of change
    • When possible, plans ahead to get email creative developed in advance of launch day
  • Oversees the content reviewing, revising, editing, and approval process
    • Typically delegates the process of getting content reviewed, edited, and approved; subsequently provides podmates with guidance and feedback as needed
    • When needed, takes the lead to make sure content is reviewed, edited, and approved. 
  • Oversees the email production process
    • Typically delegates the email production to more junior podmates; subsequently provides podmates with guidance and feedback as needed.
    • When needed, codes, produces, targets, and launches emails (with little to no supervision and few to no mistakes) 
  • Uses intermediate-to-advanced HTML, CSS, and SQL knowledge
  • Uses intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of CRM functionalities
    • Uses intermediate-to-advanced testing knowledge
    • Develops testing ideas and methodologies
    • Can pull, analyze, and present testing data and results
  • Pulls, reads, and interprets email performance metrics
  • Oversees the email reporting process
    • Typically delegates this process to more junior podmates; subsequently oversees their work, providing guidance and feedback as needed. 
    • When needed, pulls, reads, interprets, and presents email performance metrics
    • Can contribute to client projections or more complex reporting requests
  • Oversees the donation form and landing page set up process
    • Typically delegates this process to more junior podmates; subsequently oversees their work, providing guidance and feedback as needed. 
    • When needed, sets up donation forms and other landing pages (with little to no supervision)
    • Uses more advanced landing page functionalities, such as setting up and updating ActBlue Express and making use of ActBlue Express buttons in emails, or using ActionKit event campaigns alongside custom maps.
  • Frequently takes part in brainstorms and internal team meetings
    • Sometimes leads such meetings
  • Attends, makes substantive contributions to, and sometimes leads client meetings (with little to no supervision)
    • Owns certain parts -- or all of -- client meeting agendas
    • Can assemble and deliver meeting content (with little to no supervision) 
  • Takes the lead to develop email content calendars
    • Ensures that monthly email cadences are optimized for each client’s email program 
    • Seeks out effective hooks for emails; pitches those hooks to clients
    • Plans ahead to ensure that calendars take into account important dates and other anticipated developments 
  • Frequently reviews podmate work for accuracy, functionality, and alignment with best practices
    • Includes proofing test emails
  • Can take the lead to onboard new clients
    • Can manage the process of standing up new CRM and ActBlue instances (with supervision)
  • Contributes to new business proposals 
  • Project manages client work (with little to no supervision) 
  • Other responsibilities as requested
Requirements

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in email fundraising (or similar)
  • Mastery of 3+ common CRMs or fundraising platforms (ActionKit, ActBlue, ActionNetwork, NationBuilder, etc.)
  • Mastery of email writing for fundraising
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS as needed to run major email programs
  • Able to manage large clients unassisted
  • Creative writing chops
  • Enthusiasm for data and testing fundraising content
  • A desire to play a role in fundraising for major political campaigns, nonprofits, and causes
  • Attention to detail
