Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to bring skills, experience, and vision as a Lead Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer to spearhead our AI initiatives focused on building intelligent, agentic systems. Learn more about the career areas and business divisions at wellsfargojobs.com .
You will be instrumental in designing and implementing scalable AI solutions that leverage cutting-edge models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and orchestration frameworks. You will lead a team of engineers and collaborate closely with product, architecture, and platform teams to bring AI-driven capabilities to life. You will make an impact by architecting and implementing Large Language Model (LLM) based solutions using frameworks like LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or similar orchestration tools. You will integrate vector databases such as Redis with chunking strategies for semantic search, familiarity search, and contextual memory.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI systems with agentic capabilities, including planning, memory, and tool use
  • Collaborate with platform teams to integrate AI services with Model Context Protocol (MCP), Agent Development Kit (ADK), and other enterprise systems
  • Drive the development of data pipelines, including document chunking, embedding generation, and relevance tuning
  • Make decisions to define, evaluate, and fine-tune open-source and proprietary models for specific use cases
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of innovation and experimentation as you stay current with advancements in AI, LLMs, and agentic architectures
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 2+ years of experience with AI/Machine Learning (ML)
  • 3+ years of experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications
  • 2+ years of experience with agentic AI concepts including planning, memory, tool use
  • 2+ years of experience with Redis, vector search, and chunking strategies
  • 2+ years of experience with GitHub Copilot, OpenAI, Hugging Face, or similar model providers
  • 2+ years of experience integrating with enterprise platforms like MCP and ADK
  • A BS/BA degree or higher in Computer Science, AI, ML, or related major
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with LangGraph, AutoGen, or similar agent frameworks
  • Knowledge of security, compliance, and governance in AI systems
  • Contributions to open-source AI projects or publications in the industry
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Pay Range:
  • California - San Leandro Pay Range: $133,300 - $237,100 USD annual
