Gameplay AI is a core 
component of video games used to tell an engaging and exciting story through gameplay. We are looking for a Lead Gameplay AI Engineer who is excited to push the boundaries of Gameplay AI in video games for our forthcoming AAA title. This role will work side-by-side with designers and provide creative input to craft believable, innovative AI experiences. In this role, you will architect, build and maintain a variety of AI systems that bring characters and the world to life in service of outstanding, memorable gameplay.
 

Responsibilities: 

  • Own gameplay AI systems and related engineering tasking and development. 
  • Directly manage a team of AI engineers, including career management, growth, and mentorship. 
  • Architect, implement, and maintain production quality C/C++ for AI systems, behaviors, tools, and workflows. 
  • Give technical leadership and counsel, ranging from short-term AI problem solving to long-term AI roadmap planning. 
  • Provide the production team with guidance for scheduling, while identifying and reducing risks across AI feature development. 
  • Collaborate with engineers and other disciplines to provide holistic solutions with an emphasis on delivering exceptional gameplay experiences. 
  • Build and foster a highly collaborative, transparent culture that is safe, and values innovation, diversity, and work-life balance. 
  • Drive innovation in AI character behaviors, ensuring NPCs feel believable and contribute meaningfully to gameplay and storytelling. 
  • Analyze different approaches to solve AI problems and discuss the tradeoffs between them. 
  • Write and maintain relevant documentation. 

Requirements & Skills: 

  • Shipped at least one AAA game or equivalent complexity in a Gameplay AI-related role. 
  • Shipped at least one AAA game or equivalent in complexity with Unreal Engine 
  • At least 7 years of professional C++ experience. 
  • Strong math skills. 
  • Console development experience is a plus 
  • Experience with machine learning is a plus. 

Qualities: 

  • Ability to lead and mentor engineers, guiding growth in both AI-specific and broader technical skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, both verbally and written. 
  • Work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Good conflict resolution abilities across varied disciplines. 

TNM considers a number of factors when determining each role's base pay range, including industry benchmarks, location, experience, and other job specific skills. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for other incentive compensation including equity and profit share. The estimated base pay range for this role is U.S. only and not applicable for locations outside of the U.S.

The estimated base pay range for this role is: $195,000 - $243,000
